the fact that this would be spending a 3rd rounder on a 5th-string OLB notwithstanding, I think that's pretty high even for a team who needed an OLB.

I'd definitely consider him in the 4th round (combine pending), and the 5th sounds more like a pick I'd be happy to use on him; but there are some other players I think could be better developmental players around the 4th round if they fall that far like Seantrel Henderson, Sam's teammate E.J. Gaines, Anthony Johnson, Brandon Coleman, Daniel McCullers, Will Sutton, Brandon Thomas... these guys would all have a much better chance of playing as a rookie than Sam would (except on special teams of course).

Don't just pick him because he is gay like yourself. I've not heard a single 49er exec say that DE or OLB is an area of particular need for the 49ers. I say draft for need, not for sexuality.

No way, the 4th is probably the earliest I think this team should spend a pick like that. And maybe not even then. I say if he's still around in the 5th, then hes an option. I just don't like his size/build, although most people said the same thing about James Harrison.

I love E.J. Gaines, dude is tough as nails. Great man on man corner, who tackles really well. He struggles a bit in zone, but I'd love to see the 9ers get him late. Of all the MU players not named Kony Ealy (who will be gone before the 9ers get to pick) I like Gains the most. Especially considering where Gains is projected to go. 3-5.

I could see him as a Parys Haralson type. Solid depth, spot starter, decent rotation player who makes up for a lack of physical talent with instincts. I don't know that we really need that kind of player given Lemonier, and Skuta's nice season. But as said, at a certain point you almost have to consider him.
