Schools live in fear of two things: NCAA infractions, and lawsuits.
There is nothing in this original story that applies to the first one. Even if they did talk to the police chief I don't see an infraction.
So this is mostly about PR and lawsuit protection.
It's easy as fans to assume all programs are dirty and/ or do anything to put football and sports ahead of decency.
I still believe in innocent until proven guilty. I need to see more before I jump to conclusions about police being pushed to ignore cases or change reports to protect a school. Sure it happens, but I don't think it's nearly as common as most fans believe.
I mean, look at who you are responding to. There's not even any reason for OSU to try and get Powell to say Smith wasn't arrested. He's literally creating an entire scenario from nothing happening at all. It's just as feasible to say Scott Frost set up his home robbery in order to commit insurance fraud.Schools live in fear of two things: NCAA infractions, and lawsuits.

His statement referred to "nearly four decades of journalism". There was no reference to "professional".Does that count for your professional track record, even though he wasn't a professional writer until 1987?
We are arguing over someone being a writer for 31 years and not 40!?!?He didn't even start writing until 1987, so I have no idea where 40 years comes in.
So you very obviously side with him on the existence of this report, for no other reason than he said he saw it, even though nobody else has agreed with him it exists, acknowledged him ever seeing it, or produced it. And you call me the biased homer. Good lord.
You don't think he might have written for his high school paper?
No, I'll yet again repeat myself and say the simplest answer here is he did see something. Since you are again hung up on trivial unimportant details, I'll say he has a 30+ year track record to see and I'm not aware of anything where he is accused of lying to cover his tracks on an error in one of his stories. So why wouldn't rational people without a bias in this case need more than you present before we throw away that 30+ year record? He didn't even start writing until 1987, so I have no idea where 40 years comes in.

Thank God for engineers. Without them, who would drive our trains?Slinky Redfoot: two and a half decades of engineering!
Smell the glove, bitches.

So? Jeff Snook started his career when McMurphy was a sophomore in college. He's written 14 book, including co-writing Frank Beamer's autobiography, along with 4 books about Ohio State football, and other books about Florida, Oklahoma, and Nebraska. Yet people on here call him some "Ohio State hack". Go figure. We are arguing over someone being a writer for 31 years and not 40!?!?
Any way you look at it — he has been a writer forever.
Thank God for engineers. Without them, who would drive our trains?
This case has almost no chance to uncover, address, or even look into such a claim so sure it's possible, but not something I'm going to worry about.Who says they have to be 'pushed' as in bullied?
Do you have a doubt the Powell PD are Ohio St fans?
“He was never arrested, never handcuffed, never brought in and never charged in a court of law here in 2015,”"any indication that Zach was arrested that came from this department was a result of human error."
"So the word ‘arrest’ was simply checked on a box that shouldn’t have been checked.” - Chief Vest
Yeah. I'm grasping alright.

Yup. No reason at all...
1) Urban Meyer's mentor (2nd only to his very father) is Earl Bruce.
2) Zach Smith is Earl Bruce's grandson.
3) The Meyer's have know Zach Smith since he was born and Zach is like a son to them.
4) Zach played for Urbs when he was head coach at Bowling Green.
5) Zach started his coaching career at Florida under Urbs.
6) Zach was then given a job at Ohio St when Urbs took that job.
Through all of the distraction, discrediting, and personal attacks on others, there is ONE and only ONE person (other than Zach And Courtney themselves) that had the incentive and influence to keep Zach Smith gainfully employed.
That would be Urbs.
So you unequivocally believe he saw a report, no question asked, and couldn't have possibly made an error himself? That just simply isn't possible at all whatsoever? That he may have thought it was checked but it wasn't?No, I'll yet again repeat myself and say the simplest answer here is he did see something. You haven't yet shown us a single mainstream media type that has raised even a question. We need a lot more than disgruntled OSU fans and their conclusions before we make those leaps
We have proof he's a hack. He made a report claiming unequivocally Herman was the source of this and was entirely blown up. That makes everything else he says well more than suspect. Why would you trust him after such a blown and biased article? So? Jeff Snook started his career when McMurphy was a sophomore in college.
