I see it like this...

McMurphy probably has the paper copy given to Courtney with 'Arrest' checked. Figuring there would be shenanigans, he's been holding it as what he perceived to be his 'Ace in the Whole'.

Chief Vest knows it exists, but cut him off at the pass with "It should not have been checked. It's human error".

Urbs and/or Gene Smith influenced the PPD to not pursue the case against Zach.

McMurphy can come clean and drop the report that shows 'Arrest' but it'll be for naught since Chief Vest says it was an error.

Urbs and/or Gene Smith will never admit they intervened in the case. They would lose their jobs.
The Powell PD will never admit they were influenced by anyone at the university. Chief and a couple others would likely lose their jobs.

The committee report says Zach Smith remains fired for violating the protection order and not divulging his 2013 DUI to Urbs.
Urbs reported the 2015 incident to Gene Smith, but Zach was not arrested, so nothing else to see here.
Play ball.
While I think the OSU'ers are entirely out of their minds and over the top with homerism, I also don't expect to find that OSU staff pushed or attempted to influence the PD either. If there was a report with the box arrested checked I'd buy policie incompetence before some sort of school muscling.

My best guess at this point (and of course it's all pure guesses by everyone for now) is they were aware of those reports, Meyer discussed it with Zack and the AD, they determined Courtney is a wildly vindictive scorned woman going for blood and willing to make things up to make Zack's life miserable and uncomfortably pushed it aside and moved on. I'm really not expecting to find some massive failure by Meyer, or anything more than what we've already heard. Whether or not the AD's office handled things properly is another matter, but won't impact the decision to keep Meyer.

All of your drivel makes perfect sense to you and your ilk if you start from the preconceived notion that a dirty biased reporter was out to get you. You have to start there to get to where you are now.

If you start with a well known reporter with 40 years of track record and nothing on the books that even resembles the claims being made, you see a totally different picture.

You want desperately for everyone to believe this 40 year veteran of reporting suddenly went entirely out of his mind and made up facts to push a story he needed to be true. Sorry if that feels way more outlandish and in need of verifiable proof before simply picking more logical reasons like maybe he was duped by a vindictive ex wife.

I simply won't buy your outrageous bias without a lot more than questions about how he updated stories or didn't give you what you wanted.
I don't think he's dirty, I do think he's biased, but above all I think he's careless and didn't check his facts.

40 years track record? So he started writing when he was 16?

I'm not desperate for shit. Everything out there right now supports my side of the story. All you have is speculation, conspiracies, and bias.

In order to get charges lessened, charges have to be pressed and you have to be arrested.

It is much more likely that the police found out who he was and gave him a free pass like many Ohio State fans are claiming that Courtney got with her alleged drunk driving and let her off with nothing but an escort home.
Well this is irrelevant.

And so was your entire story about your friend.
Not at all. It illustrated how even some kid fresh out of college can blow over and still get an OVI reduced. Hardly surprising a grown man making well into the 6-figures could do it.

This thing has gotten pretty ridiculous and pretty much everyone involved has handled it about as poorly as possible.

If Meyer simply tells the truth in that press conference, this whole thing is likely already over.

If McMurphy simply makes his edits in a more correct/above board manner. This is likely already over.

If the Powell Police Chief simply says definitively that no report with the "arrest" box checked exists or just releases the report and says "it was human error", this is likely already over.

Instead, it looks like tOSU kept a known wife beater on staff and only fired him because it was going public, Meyer looks like a hypocrite and liar, McMurphy looks like he tried to "doctor" his previous articles in an underhanded way and the Powell Police Dept. looks incompetent at best and like they are part of a cover up, at worst.

In short, it's taken a whole lot of derp to get where we are now. lol

Pretty astute observations.

BTW, gonna be hard for you to hate Lee Brown James so much now, huh?

And in order to get it REDUCED you must actually be CHARGED. How do you get something reduced without actually being charged or arrested?

Are you suggesting that the police did absolutely nothing to your friend, let him drive home with no charges, and he reduced the no charges to something even lower?

Wouldn't be the first time a chick cut off her nose to spite her own face. Nor dudes for that matter.

That being said, you don't fire what is arguably the 2nd best coach in college football without extremely strong evidence they used their influence on a local PD.
Chief Vest seems to have any evidence of that covered.

I don't recall ever saying he was never charged with OVI. Where did I say that?

So then you are saying that Zach Smith was charged with something then got it lowered?

I’m trying to understand how your friend who committed a crime, was actually arrested for it, had to pay out the nose for a lawyer to make it go away is similar to Zach Smith who allegedly committed a crime, the police decided to do nothing, wasn’t charged, and no lawyer was needed to pay to make everything go away.

Aww, buddy, you got confused. This isn't accurate at all. Go back and read about the OVI then we can talk.

Remember that according to Zach Smith, he was called off the recruiting trail by the AD when word filtered up. So unless Smith is referring to a different incident, the likelihood that Ohio State officials and Powell PD officials were not in communication is pretty much zero.

And I can imagine how that conversation might go ...

"C'mon. It you arrest him, we have to fire him. Take that into account, okay?"

He said 40 years of journalism in his tweet saying Herman wasn't his source.

I said it's entirely possible he based this too heavily on her word and 'evidence' she supplied. However, I need more proof he didn't specifically see a form with that box checked before I accuse him of lying about that. Again, that doesn't mean what he saw was real as she could have fabricated that.

He didn't even start writing until 1987, so I have no idea where 40 years comes in.

So you very obviously side with him on the existence of this report, for no other reason than he said he saw it, even though nobody else has agreed with him it exists, acknowledged him ever seeing it, or produced it. And you call me the biased homer. Good lord.

You don't think he might have written for his high school paper?
Does that count for your professional track record, even though he wasn't a professional writer until 1987?

So why were the police called if he didn’t allegedly commit a crime? I never said he did, just that Courtney claimed that he did. You do know what allegedly means right?

Did the police arrest him or did they say nothing happened and let the guy go?

If no crime was committed, why is he going to pay thousands of dollars to have a lawyer defend him against the alleged crime that the police are not charging him for?

Or are you suggesting that he had his lawyer act as a bag man to payoff the police? Otherwise what your friend went through has no bearing and you are just trying to muddy up the waters with nonconsequential information.

Schools live in fear of two things: NCAA infractions, and lawsuits.

There is nothing in this original story that applies to the first one. Even if they did talk to the police chief I don't see an infraction.

So this is mostly about PR and lawsuit protection.

It's easy as fans to assume all programs are dirty and/ or do anything to put football and sports ahead of decency.

I still believe in innocent until proven guilty. I need to see more before I jump to conclusions about police being pushed to ignore cases or change reports to protect a school. Sure it happens, but I don't think it's nearly as common as most fans believe.

The Powell police chief gave it's potential existence credibility.

Oh holy hell, do you even know what the topic of conversation is? You're not even in the same ballpark. Google "Zach Smith OVI" and catch yourself up, then we can talk.
