That has been a real difference this year. I remember back in like the 2017 and 2018 season the defense got fed up with the offense. There were games where the defense would play great in the 1st quarter but then you just saw the life sucked out of them when they realized the offense wasn't going to do anything and the defense would have to be perfect the entire game if the team stood a chance of winning.

Now you see the confidence in hey if the offense doesn't have it today the defense will help carry the load. Offense turns it over hey we got this. Or a couple of the games where the defense was having some struggles the offense would step up and put up some decent points.

Yes! Nice to have a QB teammates believe in. It means everything. Bo had his teammates at hello.

I remember in 2017 CHJ’s interview after a 21-0 loss to the Chargers…

“We have to be better on defense. We have to always give up zero points. It’s what it is. Always zero…”

That is the season I remember a lot of defensive players really being outspoken. There was one game when the team was sitting around after a loss and an offensive player stood up to speak. I think it was Russell Okung and Talib told him something along the lines of “when the offense starts scoring points then you can speak. Until then sit your bleep down”.

The irony, the Broncos offense of 2015 (yeah that year) may very well have been worse. Under Peyton Manning, who was the 33rd rated passer. With 9 TDs to 17 ints. Also that offense was the worst in SB history. Breaking the record of the Craig Morton SB XII of ineptitude by going 1 for 14 on 3rd down conversions. They scored ONE offensive TD in that game and it was a 4 yard drive that needed a PI call to get a new set of downs to get it.

Two years before...the greatest offense ever. Only team to score over 600 points. Manning, 55td passes? Blown out by the number one Defense in the NFL.

MUST be at least 18 times a QB has passed for 5000 yards. None won a SB the year they passed for 5000 yards.

What does all that mean? You all tell me.

Well I think the defense wasn't fed up at that point. They were just hitting their stride of being recognized as one of the greatest defenses ever. Also when the guy speaking for the offense is Peyton Manning it doesn't matter if he is having the worst season ever you listen to that man.

The other part that helps is the team was winning. I don't think the defense would have been complaining too much in that 2017 season if the team was winning. Losing while you are giving the team a top-5 defense all because special teams and offense is bottom-5 in the league is going to cause some division. This season the team is 10th in scoring and the offense hasn't been completely pathetic so helps the defense want to stay engaged.

The final difference I would say is the age of many of the defensive players. You've got a lot of guys on that defense on their rookie contracts so the frustration hasn't been built up. This is part of why I think Payton was so willing to move on from some of the veterans is he wanted to get some new voices that hadn't been jaded by years of losing.

Where did we hear this before? What Julian Edelman said in constructive criticism of Nix

“I think Sean Payton may have been onto something when he called Nix (Ferris) Bueller earlier this year,” Edelman said on FOX NFL Kickoff on January 5. “Just the inconsistency of Bo Nix lately … this has still been a great year for the Broncos.”

===============

What does he know? :noidea:

Lol, yes Edelman. The rookie qb with fewer weapons than most and 90 million in dead cap money is inconsistent. Way to think out your segment.

I mean every rookie QB has those moments of inconsistency. Heck Daniels had about a 4-5 game stretch this year where he did not look good at all. Are we calling him out for inconsistency? Plenty of things for Nix to clean up for sure. He abandons the pocket way too quickly at times, doesn't always read the defense well, has struggled when pressured, etc. The fact that he just put up the most TD's by a Bronco QB not named Peyton Manning in his rookie year though shows we got something.

How did he have really good games with the same awful "weapons?"

Sigh

Like I said. What does Julian Edelman know? Certainty not more than us.

I mean…does it really take a former player to conclude he was inconsistent? Is anyone actually surprised a rookie is inconsistent? Especially a rookie who was playing without a full deck? Is it really newsworthy when a former player makes a statement that is also very obvious to even the layman?

There’s no “there” there.

Which was the point of the thread. I've warned up to Nix. His attitude is what I call the anti-Cutler. He has all the tools and with Payton, that becomes a bright future. I know the Broncos HAVE FINALLY LANDED A FRANCHISE QB.

Because they're inconsistent? Like I said though, brilliant piece of reporting.

Edelman is an idiot every time he opens his mouth. Just because these guys are former players doesn't mean they should be in the media, but the networks apparently think every jock should have a mouthpiece.
