And by 'retiring' he means no one wanted him.

His weakness was catching passes and fumbles.

That and the awful spin move he liked to do in the backfield. It always seemed like he thought someone was controlling him in Madden.

He took dance classes to help him with his agility.

He should have done more to learn how to hold onto the ball.

I love how he claims he wants to pursue a writing career... I'm sure the world would love to hear more about his 9/11 conspiracy theories! :L

Yes, he should write more philosophical books.

He significantly contributed to at least 2 Cardinal losses because of fumbles. I wish him the best, but I'm not sad to see him go.

If he was smart, after six years he should be able to retire nicely on that NFLPA pension.

Sounds more like something out of a Ray Lewis testimony.

Is this like the guy who goes into his Boss' office, is told he's about to be fired, and shouts, "I Quit!" before the boss can complete his sentence?

Yes, plain and simple... He knows he doesn't have the lead role secured in AZ. There is some young talent at that position.

He will need money to last the next 51 years. He should not count on a dime from any untested revenue stream. If his overhead is just 250k a year ...it's almost 13 million.

One year off and he will be back trying to get on a team for whatever money he can get. You heard it here first.

I'm waiting for him to reach into the old bag of Ricky Williams publicity comments...

I actually thought his parting letter was surprisingly insightful. He seems to say he's earned a lot of money over his career, something you don't say if you're spending it like water. If he has $5MM saved of the $15MM he's earned he'll be fine bridging to his pension if he can get it to return 3% per year, which is extremely conservative. Basic tax-free municipal bonds would do the trick.

He's made, what, about $15 million so far in his career? If he's smart he has more money saved than the average person will make in two lifetimes and will be OK even assuming he has a quarter of that left. If he's not smart he will be broke in two years regardless of how much money is in the bank right now.

Edit - and I didn't see naughtymax's post before I posted this. Great minds I guess.
