Mayhew was quoted this offseason as saying they wouldn't sign Suh at any cost. Well, he stayed true to that. In a recent interview, he said they reached their limit, and Suh decided to sign elsewhere.

He also said he's glad they don't have that contract on the books.

However, he was firm in saying the Lions did not apply the franchise tag – which would have guaranteed Suh $26.9 million for 2015 – because it would have exacerbated salary-cap issues that have hurt the franchise’s negotiating flexibility in recent seasons.

“We’ve always had that kind of top-heavy (cap situation) with a few guys up there,” Mayhew said. “The thing about the franchise tag, really, was continuing to kick the ball, kick the can down the road and restructure deals to make that happen."

He stated that fielding a sustainable, competitive football team was more important and that couldn't happen with what Suh wanted. Short term, losing Suh hurts. But this franchise might just be realizing how to economically run a team. Time will tell.

So he basically admitted he can't draft well. Lol

Cripple the team is pretty dramatic. Draft well, build around Suh. It's not like they have a bunch of pro bowlers on the team they need to resign. They're obviously not attracting any free agents. So where will this imaginary "sustainable football team" come from?

Sure they are. You're just too stuck in Suh's nuts ask to see it.

Tate, Quin, Digs, Bush, etc.

Detroit has attracted plenty in recent years. We now have arguably one of the best safety tandems in the league thanks to FA.

No. He's a Miami Suhphins fan. Bout to lead the league in all defensive categories and win every SB in the future. I heard there's talk he may even steal past SBs, that's how suhper he is.

I'm clearly talking about this year, without Suh.

Still seems like that method will get me that decoder ring much faster than the earlier plan of gumping it.

Lionstop is all about the offensive toys. We see how great ebron was, he probably wants gurley with first pick so he can suck balls as well.

Uhmm, weren't you the one who used to justify the out of nowhere jabs you took at TP by claiming he made posts just like this one?

Will someone please post a picture of either a big black kettle or a glass house? #hypocrite. I've never taken the time to learn how that's done.

If you are going to take the moral high road on the way others post then don't drop any more turds like this one.

Lionstop said himself he favors offense, loves Ebron and wants a RB in round 1.

Your point... I think it may have escaped, because it's nowhere to be found here...

Point is Laker not saying anything that isn't true. Might not be polite but it's true.

Wrong, yet again.

Laker is putting words in his mouth based loosely on things LionsTop has said in the past. It's a tactic that's often employed around here by the losing side of an argument. Can't hack it arguing actual facts? Just exaggerate the truth a whole bunch until it supports your point of view. The actual truth is completely irrelevant with this tactic, so I can see why it appeals so much to those of you prone to stretching the truth...
