Patriots and Dolphins are having trouble with O-lines - and we all are tied at 1-3.
Patriots O-line coach has 1 year NFL experience and got handed the job when Popovich was fired (covid)
Dolphins invested heavily on O-line in draft busts.
Misery loves company!

Being spoiled by good OL & coaching for as long as we have has made it difficult to stomach. But it's twice as painful when we ended 2020 with 2 distinct wishes for the offseason... FIre the OC & rebuild the OL. The Steelers effectively did neither given the offense hasn't changed, and they didn't invest very much into the OL other than overturning it and hoping for "addition by subtraction". Results have been uglier than we ever anticipated.

Running out of patience with Green. His issues are primarily technique. He’s often starting his first step too flat and taking bad angles at DTs. Strength can help cover that up but doesn’t solve it, and I’m skeptical that he simply doesn’t have the wingspan to allow strength to help cover up bad technique. I’m thinking Green could develop but he’s clearly not ready yet. Maybe next year they bounce him back to Guard and draft a true Center.

This sums up Ben’s year thus far… dumps it off on possession down well before the sticks. A pre-snap read should have told him not to attempt the short cross with 3 defenders sitting over the box. Bad reads & bad mechanics. Stuff you shouldn’t see from a vet with as much experience as Ben has. Also too afraid of the pocket collapsing to give DJ’s route time to unfold

Man, if only someone had said we need to find a successor for Ben sooner rather than later....if only someone had said that....

I have zero issues with them trying to put together what they can and make a run. They did it in the wrong way, RB-TE-C whose a guard.........but the premise remains the same, elite D, make a run........That and if we have a down year or two letting ben go out his way, then so be it. Not many saw it being this bad.

Agreed. The logic was sound. And given their draft & cap capital, they really didn’t have a realistic shot at finding a successor this year. Mortgaging their future by trading away picks for Stafford or moving up was about the only thing they could have done to have a successful turnaround. And doing that on the cusp of a rebuild for life after Ben wouldn’t be ideal. They are going to need those draft picks to keep this roster afloat. Defense is aging & may need some retooling soon (Haden, Edmunds, Alualu, etc) on top of needing to revamp the offense at QB, OL & WR.

Keeping Ben with an elite D made all the sense in the world. But failing to adequately address the OL was the Achilles heel in that plan.

Couple of observations from yesterday’s game:

- Goes without saying but taking the top off the defense early on opened things up nicely.
- Chuks & Moore only allowed 1 pressure each yesterday. That’s huge
- Canada seems to be getting a better handle on the run game. They had to run on 7-8 man boxes a lot but a mixture of delayed draws helped soften that up. Najee’s big runs came against 6-man boxes. Go figure!
- Scheming to better position his players. Like staying in 12 personnel (2 TEs) to keep Denver in their base defense. Eventually they motioned Claypool inside right forcing the Broncos to guard him with Von Miller. Yea that paid off huge.
- with the run game working they opened up a lot more PA with Ben under center

It’s just 1 game but encouraging to see some improvements

yep. The only thing about stafford is, i do think hes an elite qb, mired in the lions for so long. But I always hear teams, like redskins fans, or whoever, that you cant give up a first or two first for a qb. Not even for a young one! too rich! mortgage the future. One if you have a team thats built to win now, and it costs you two first for an elite vet, its a gamble, but man shoot your shot. Thats just me. Yeah the future yada yada, how often are draft picks misses. Would you trade two more rebuild years for a superbowl? 5? I would, absolutely. Go for it i say. But you don't get a vet unless bens retiring. Young guy? who were we gonna get best shot was kellen mond or davis mills. I suppose there was tons of smoke about us and darnold......so that could of been an option. Trubisky.......

I’m all for throwing draft picks at proven talent… But not as onboard with moving up the draft board to get Fields or Lance. That’s a scary move to make that could put your team in a hole for half a decade.

Darnold didn’t quite intrigue me as much this past offseason but I don’t recall being opposed. I remember seeing some crazy good throws from him in New York but was largely a mess.

ok. Thats an odd reply to what i said
You said "not many saw it being this bad". I said I did and made a joke about not wanting to say I told you so but actually loving that I was right. How was that an odd reply? That is literally a direct response to something you said.
