At most they will piss away one of the decent pieces they have for another project guy they will say they have high hopes for that ends up having a career low season next year.

They aren't serious about chasing to win the division. Not for this year, and not for next. They are happy right where they are. A team that will sometimes fight for the last WC slot. Profits are king and riding midline payroll with a team around .500 apparently makes them a shit load of money.

After turning down the Red Sox as a 30th-rounder from a Georgia high school in 2018, Bliss became an immediate starter at Auburn. A second baseman on the Tigers' 2019 College World Series team, he shifted to shortstop as a sophomore and ranked sixth in NCAA Division I in hits (29 in 18 games) while playing errorless defense. He adopted a more aggressive approach in 2021 and tripled his previous career home run total with 15. The D-backs then selected him in the second round of the Draft (42nd overall) and he signed for $1.25 million. It took some time to get acclimated to pro ball, but Bliss found his footing late in the year and thrived over the final month of the season with Low-A Visalia.

Though he's just 5-foot-9 and 165 pounds, Bliss is strong for his size and has quality bat-to-ball skills. He has added some loft to what had been a relatively flat right-handed stroke and uses a big leg kick to make the most of his modest raw power. He remains a hit-over-power prospect with a good approach and a knack for making hard contact.

A solid runner, Bliss has good hands and instincts on defense. He covers ground at shortstop and tries to compensate for fringy arm strength with a quick release. He has the tools to play some shortstop, but profiles better at second base and could become a plus defender at the keystone.
