Outside of the Dodgers, every fan base says their owners don’t spend enough money. Which is why IMO it is broken. Just think of how ridiculous it is that Mets and Yankees fans are talking about how cheap their owners are cause the Mets haven’t resigned Alonso and Yankees didn’t resign Soto. Same with Cubs and Red Sox fans. Just the whole model is broke. And truthfully I’m not sure how much a salary cap could really fix the model. With a salary floor, my best guess instead of spending a bunch of money in free agency the M’s would just pay Gilbert, Kirby and Raleigh what they are actually worth
There's 2 different fanbases in baseball. As a 2 team fan I fall in both categories. Yes, all Mariner fans curse the owners for cheap shit heads along with other ball clubs but the other fan base aren't claiming owners don't spend, but spend on the wrong players. As a Phillies fan there's a couple of players that are over paid.

A salary cap with a salary cap floor would even the playing field. If the cheap ass owners cannot handle the cap floor than it's time to sell.

Don't let him judge how you sport fan. There are no rules to who anyone follows or how far you go with it. Even 'bandwagon' fan parjoritives are nonsense. We are all way more involved with the M's than they deserve, but I don't blame any fan that doesn't come back to it until the play on the field makes them pay attention.

Like many UW fans, I soft root for WSU when it isn't against UW. My son went to Penn State and I've followed them for years because of that connection and went back there for this years first visit by UW as a new member of the B1G. Also being a fan of whoever it is that plays Oregon is another angle many have against whoever their particular hated rival is.

I don't follow any level of basketball and really haven't since the Sonics were stolen from us. I probably haven't sat through more than 8 or 9 college games since then, even when Romar had them playing decent ball for a bit. They could go on a major run and I'd probably not pay any attention. That's just how my interest is.

You do you and stay true to the blue (lol).

I don't know how much I can handle the M's this year, but I'm sure I'll watch more than they deserve for me to and yet likely less than last year unless some crazy changes happen that we do not see on the horizon as of yet.
Did you stay the entire UW/PSU game? I was so freaking pissed off at the play calling and our QB I ended up leaving at halftime head back to the RV and cook more food and drink.

That’s fair. I’m using generalities by just what I’ve seen on social media. Especially with both NY, Cubs and Red Sox fans blasting their cheap ownership which as a Mariners fan I find it hilarious.

A cap does make sense, but with baseballs make up a salary floor is going to be really hard unless the entire pay structure is, draft and minor leagues are completely overhauled. It’s hard to justify a team like say the Rays who draft well, develop well and trade well being forced into massively overpaying for FA’s. But we also have the Boras’ and other dipshit agents who don’t want their clients like Raleigh and Gilbert to sign extensions.

I don’t have the answers but IMO there needs to be an actually mediator, not a commissioner between the owners and players. I know baseball is making more money than ever but IMO there is a massive problem and this next work stoppage is going to be ugly and with so many fan bases apathetic I’m not sure how they make fans care.

The Atlanta Braves are a publicly traded Co. They have to post. their earnings . 2023. gross of everything. $630 million. net profit. $38 million .
Yes but I would love to know what they are writing off. They are not spending $592 million on baseball alone. There has to be more in the deduction category to explain this.

I like..230..soft..cap..still lose.
Draft picks,.250.hard.cap..
The dodgers going.to.270..
Was too...much..

Right know..the dodgers could have..
An all star team..and no one would stop them...
That.needs.to change..
But spending up.to..180..to.
200..mil..
Is necessary..for compatition..
For.
Example..do you think..the.
Mariners..
Will be competitive...as in make the.
Playoffs..

Right we all.know.it won't take much.
But it will..take..
At least..a 1st base .more

So let's say mariners.still.
Have 10 .mil left...
If they trade .haniger.
They..could get Alonzo.on a one year.
Deal..at least..
And still get..iglesius..for.3b.

It would be cheap on all accounts..
But not bad though..
The hitting would actually.be.improved

It’s sad when you have no idea what your team did this off-season. Especially when spring training is 3.5 weeks away.

our owners' main priority is to have as much "success" in 2025 as they did in 2024. and make no mistake about it, they considered 2024 to be WILDLY successful.

the astros released abreu eating almost $30 million to free up a roster spot and make heir team better, and abreu was looking like an all star compared to garver. the astros prioritize making their team better. they cut dead weight without giving it another thought because EVERY roster spot is valuable to a contending team. m's fans have become accustomed to having a LOT of dogshit eating up roster spots and even defend it. it's disgusting.

the team is nowhere. i don't want jerry dealing a goddam thing, either, so i'm not even complaining about the lack of moves this offseason. he's going to be gone before the end of the season because there aren't any other scapegoats left for owners to hide behind. i don't want him destroying anything else before he's canned.

jerry's savvy though. he sees the writing on the wall with his future with the org as much as anybody, and i think part of the reason he isn't doing as much of his trademarked "shit for shit" trades is because he doesn't want to give ownership any more ammo for attacking him when they fire his ass.
right now, the narrative is firmly entrenched in ownership being incompetent, which they are. jerry doing a flurry of dogshit trades would shift it away from them to him.

Well and not trading from arguably the best farm system in baseball gives him the excuse of let me keep my job until this next core comes up.

jerry's been doing this pretty every season with this ownership group. just go through the motions enough to make sure ownership is protected from being called out for being 100% indifferent to winning. toe that company line to the end lol.

shit for shit trades have been fine and dandy for that for a loooong time. and jerry was willing to put on the charade year in and out as long as his own future was secure....after all, there's always managers and hitting coaches to sacrifice and get m's fans all wet with joy, which has been the MO for Stanton and Nintendo before him. but they're all out of managers to fire with the hiring of an M's legend in that role. and i don't think firing this new hitting coach will satisfy even the most vapid and feckless of "fans". jerry has to know he's a c#nt hair away from getting the axe. i can see why he's been relatively inert.
