Ok, I guess I don’t see the difference between trading Castillo meaning they have to sign Sasaki vs trading Castillo meaning they must spend that saved money on a FA. If they sign Walker and actually complete that rumored 3 way deal with the Chicago teams they could get Hoerner for just prospects

I am not sure what you mean on this. I think IF they traded Castillo they would need a replacement. No in-house would fare well in my opinion. I suggest Sasaki because of the payroll issue they have. They could trade one of the others and still sign Sasaki and that works as well, but again, they would be limited with their self-imposed budget to sign a 1B, 2B, and 3B.

They wouldn't have to spend that money if they traded Castillo on a free agent. They could trade for bigger contracts if they did trade him though such as Bellinger. I am not advocating for Bellinger because he seems so up and down, but I would cry if they added him either. I like Hoerner and Paredes from Cubs and would be fine with one or both.

So I am not sure what the topic is anymore.

But I already gave you my replacements scenarios. Spend the saved money on a FA and have Hancock/Evans/Garcia fight it out for the 5th starter.

I’m not disagreeing with you I’m just trying to see what the difference is with your trading him predicated on signing Sasaki vs my scenario. If they sign Sasaki, IMO then you don’t trade Castillo, you trade Gilbert cause you can get a less expensive option to Bregman or Walker. The M’s could get a Mayo and Cowser for Gilbert instead of a Sasaki and Bohm for Castillo
