I was debating this myself. Seems like Castillo is worth more, but at same time it cures a need especially if they can get Sasaki. A long shot, but they are trying for it per Jude.

To me it’s hard to say what Castillo’s worth is because of his contract. IMO regardless of if they get Sasaki they need to trade Castillo for a bat. Granted this scenario sucks but what is better for the team, bet on Hancock, Evans, Garcia etc to be a serviceable 5th starter or betting on Young/Bliss/Moore, a low tier FA 3B and Raley and Locklear being good.

Any trade of a SP has to be predicated on them signing Sasaki.

Castillo has good value. Workhorse with history. His salary seems bad to us because we are the cheap ass Mariners, but the going rate for free agent starters is crazy. Just look at the last 3 signings. Nobody's making almost as much.

But why? Sasaki would instantly be the Ace, at least by performance and stuff but another top starter isn’t what they need, especially one with a AA pitch count. Not saying I don’t want them to sign him at all cause I think switching him and Castillo does make the team better. But I also think Hancock or the other two rookies plus 2 bats is better than Castillo and prayers. But I would love for them to trade Castillo and sign him.

I’m not saying Castillo doesn’t have value. Just saying in terms of getting an impact bat I personally think he has the least value of any of the starters. IMO, in order for someone to take on his entire salary the M’s will have to toss in a prospect.

He just had a bad year..

It's risky..
But having.a.veteran.on.the.team.

And white Sox.could use.
