Have you seen Gaviglio pitch? He seems to be the best option in Tacoma right now...stats wise.
I watched about 3 innings of his a few days ago. He pitched very well and got outs. I wouldn't say his 'stuff' is jaw dropping or anything in fact it seemed somewhat vanilla he makes it work though. I didn't see how fast he was through but I'd say his fastball was low 90's at best with effective off speed pitches. He seems to be a smart pitcher with good control, I'd say his most effective weapon is knowing what to throw, when to throw it and where to throw it. I like him as depth for the time being (although all the other starters have sucked so far in Tacoma), I am interested to see how well he does after a few more starts, the announcer made it sound like this season was his first in AAA.

Gaviglio looked like the other Tacoma starters today. 5 ER in 4 innings plus 4 BB

Ouch! Don't know any other options which for the millionth time is why I wanted at least one more vet pitcher with an arm still left signed. That would leave these rookies down getting work but able to bring up. You can't sign minor leaguers for this because if they are minor leaguers and you can sign them then they aren't worth having.

Exactly because they are minor leaguers! Worst case scenario has been happening with the big club (struggling youngsters in the rotation.) And we don't have anyone that can replace them.

Just like I said in the off season. Rookies are great for insurance, but when counted on you roll the dice and usually don't have a backup plan because they are the backup plan.

Nite.

Watching the Rainiers tonight. Mostly wanted to see Quentin, haven't seen anything real notable yet. Montgomery pitching well so far, maybe a little bit of control issues. ( Montgomery just gave up his first hit in the 6th.)

Montgomery may be a darkhorse to help us mid-season.

Montgomery is an interesting player. Highly touted prospect in the Royals system for a few seasons. He dominated the low minors but never really through a ton of innings. Then from 2011 on he has been shelled every season since. I don't know if there was an injury in there or something but somewhere along the line he lost the touch. When we first got him I looked at his stats and didn't know what to think about the guy. Since seeing him pitch a little bit, I am starting to like him more and more.

I followed him a bit in the minors for some reason. Not enough to really know why he hasn't lived up to his potential. Maybe he is a late bloomer. Gawd knows we didn't give up anything for him. :hope:

This is the best part about Montgomery and part of the reason he is growing on me.
