Marco Gonzales was diagnosed with a left flexor strain on Tuesday after additional imaging revealed no damage to his UCL.

That's about as good of news as the M's could have possibly hoped for. He'll remain shut down for another week or so before beginning a throwing program. Barring any setbacks along the way, the Mariners are hopeful that Gonzales will be able to return to the rotation before the month of June is through. The 31-year-old hurler owns a 5.22 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and a 34/18 K/BB ratio over 50 innings on the season.

I'm watching the Padres broadcast. They showed the Mariners are batting .196 vs non fastballs this year.
Gee I wonder why our home broadcast doesn't show stuff like that? Its because they are too busy polishing turds.

Julio's mind is a mess at the plate

1st inning works his way to a 2-0 count, nobody out and Crawford on 1st ( single )

2-0 count you box the pitcher up ( you look for 1 single pitch in 1 certain area ) and you sit on that spot and if your pitch comes into that area of the strike zone you are taking a mighty hack.

Julio swings at the 3rd pitch that was NOWHERE near the strike zone ( an up and in off speed pitch ) off his fist and a weak ground ball back to the pitcher I believe.

That is a solid F rating in that at bat. How the hell can he even think about swinging 2-0 on a ball that far up and in off the plate ??

makes absolute no sense at all and it goes against every hitting philosophy any hitting coach would tell you what to do or NOT to do on a 2-0 count.

He has talent ... but is absolutely wasting it right now.

Funny I was just checking some Julio numbers before reading this. It was after that weak-ass swing on a 2-0 count with a pitch up and in.

So pre All-Star numbers;

julio 1st half.jpg

Post All-Star to now numbers;

julio 2nd half.jpg

Pretty similar on stats, but the naked eye (at least mine) seams to see it differently.

If he played for a different team he would likely find himself in the bottom 3rd of the line up with his current stats / approach to hitting.

But of course the Mariners pathetic line up his .245 average makes him a superstar on the club.

Finally a pleasant sight for the Mariners, how filthy was Munoz last night?!?!

The long balls were nice, the win was good in spite of the horrible plate discipline, but his return was straight filthy.

Was exciting to watch if even for just a half an inning, thats all.
