Is it just me or does it seem like Servais is beginning to lose the team... Seems like the hitters are frustrated and aren't buying into his strategy at the plate.... Mike Salk just mentioned those are some murmurings coming out of the club house... Maybe Jesse Winker did have a legit beef last season due to the frustration of our offensive strategy... Just weird that FA hitters seem to come here and struggle under this management/coaching staff... Wong, Pollack, and Hernandez are the latest examples... Maybe it is Scott Servais that is the problem...

Mariners are not the only team..that wants to be aggressive.at..
The plate..but not strike out..
Strike out does nothing for a hitter...

Stop signing wannabe power hitters and sign guys who can hit singles and doubles. Do things to extend innings, not just go 1 2 3 weakly and help the opposing pitcher. I bet if a team concentrated more on doubles as a ceiling instead of home runs they would have much better bat control and win a lot of games. As it is now they swing out of their shoes and make weak contact. Give up some power for better bat control.

Hmm, ok well then scratch my really bad excuse for them. That is some in depth crap that I didn’t know about, I knew the pension but had no clue about the health coverage nor the team contributes to a 401k.
I just found out this year about it when they came to new agreement which really helps the minor league players. I always assumed they were taken care of in the minors like major leaguers. Baseball is weird but at least they are trying to fix it. Maybe not because they have good hearts, but help is help.

Not a bad excuse at all. You were dead right in the case of White and others like him. But if you get the right guy, it pays off ten fold. Now the JRod deal is a whole different animal.

I posted something last year showing that the M's haven't been in the top 15 (I believe) in doubles as a team since 2001. We are 18th this year and 26th last year. I agree 100% with you. Doubles over homers. That leads to better overall hitting and more runs.

I have wanted to know for years one stat. What percentage of innings we score in vs other teams. It just seems to me that the more innings you score in the more pressure you put on an opponent. Not just overall runs scored, but how many innings. More innings scored in, the more times the opponent gets up their pen. The more it puts pressure on the pitcher on the mound. The defense. If you score 5 runs in one inning and nothing else, the stress isn't there. Maybe I am dead wrong on this, but it just sticks in my head this should matter.

Edit: 2001 we were 10th in team doubles.

Edit 2: In 1998 we were 5th in team doubles. Those were two of our best years so...

Imagine how unbeatable a team of 9 Pete Rose's or 9 Rod Carews or 9 Derek Jeters or 9 Tony Gwynn's would be ?

You would need to plate at least 15 runs a game to have any chance at all of beating them.

The big shift to HR's came during the Steroid era when players saw the fame and big contracts paid to those who could hit the ball 400 feet over the wall.

then they banned drugs so players got stronger and swung harder and cared less about batting avg ( or singles or doubles ) or STRIKE OUTS, as long as they hit 35-40+ Home Runs

The first coach to drop will be the hitting coach and needs to be soon. Team needs a new fresh prospective at the plate since they can't hit meatballs thrown at them and when they have runners, can't drive them in.

Suarez hitting 7th... Surprised but not surprised... Surprised to see Servais have an actual set of balls to do this but not surprised due to Suarez lack of production at the plate this season if that makes sense... :D ...

Maybe it'll get straighten out. The Phillies dropped Trea Turner to 5th and he managed 2 HRs yesterday.
