No one, however, could have predicted that he might hang up the cleats due to an allergic reaction to hockey equipment.

Sounds more like a problem of him not being able to keep up with the speed of the game if the other guys are still going to be playing on skates...

There were times last year he was the fastest and most tenacious hawk on the ice. NHL will be all over this, I think the hawks have a cap hit against him for 4 more years because of that 5.8 per contract he signed. Same with the Duncan Keith contract. Retirement would not beat the cap hit LTIR might.

LTIR would, that's why everyone is viewing this story with some suspicion.

Except the source, who also thinks Ryan Lochte has a few years left in him.

I understand. Elliotte isn't in a position where he can aggressively question something like that, he can leave that to scumbags like us

The only thing I can think of to lend any credence to it is gear is made from different materials now than it was even 10 years ago. Could be a new material he is allergic to.

But that doesn't matter. This is cap circumvention.

Get ready Chicago, the penalty for cap circumvention is a hefty fine and forfeiture of a 1st and 3rd round pick, so I've been told.

Wonder if he isn't going to "retire" so he can go on LTIR so they can get the cap space. Or did he sign that contract before he was 35?
