THAT is a rough question, it depends on the school, the time, and the expectations in my thoughts. I see Self mentioned as an elite coach on this thread, I looked at his resume at Kansas, a true blue blood in CBB. 2005 Kansas got a 3 seed, lost to 14 seed Bucknell, 2006 Kansas won the B12, got a 4 seed in the NCAA and lost to 13 seed Bradley, 2007 elite 8, 2008 won the NC, 2009 sweet 16, 2010 lost in 2nd round to 9 seed Northern Iowa as the top seed in the tourney, 2011 made elite 8, lost to 11 seed VCU, 2012 lost championship to UK, 2013 lost in sweet 16 to Michigan, 2014 2nd round loss to Stanford. 2015 2nd round loss to Wichita state, 2016 elite 8 loss to Villanova, 2017 loss to Oregon in elite 8. THIS is at Kansas, a place where recruiting means telling a kid you don't have a spot for them!!!
We would view that as elite here for sure, but I know some folks from Kansas who complain he hasn't done a good job, that he loses games he should win, etc.
I think Huggins is elite, he has had issues, mainly because of that lost recruiting class. BUT WVU has been to the sweet 16 3 of the last 4 years, which we have not done before, he took us to the final four for only the second time in school history, he has competed for the league title in arguably the strongest league in CBB. We hear about the lack of in state talent in football being a reason for it being a tough job, the same is true in BB. THIS is the golden age of WVU basketball, surpassing even those great years of West and Hot Rod!!
