Gophers now have 7 of the 21 NCAA HWT titles of the 21st Century, next closest school has just 2 I believe, maybe 3?

Minnesota, once again leads the way in the production of NHL players. Both historically and they started this NHL season out #1.

Only looking at the top 7 producers all-time, who are the top 6 this year as well, and DU is 9th this year. Of those 7, the top 3 players currently playing are

#1 Phil Kessel out of Minnesota, at 948 pts going into tonight's action, 44 on the season,
#2 Joe Pavelski out of Wisconsin, at 915 pts going into tonight's action, 72 on the season,
#3 Blake Wheeler out of Minnesota, at 861 pts going into tonight's action, 54 on the season.

UND has 2 at 845 and 839 and Denver has someone at 795, no one else is is about 650. So those are 6 players with the best chances of moving up into the Top 250 of all-time lists for pts, goals, assists, etc., if they are not already in the Top 250 and so might be working on cracking the Top 100. I think Kessel is ranked 105th in Goals scored right now, 107th in total points, 125th in assists and 75th in Power Play Goals. Not sure he'll be able to crack the Top 100 this season with only a few games left, but he's doing well enough I don't see him retiring at the end of the year either. Not sure where Pavelski is ranked but he's having one of his best seasons this year so at this rate he could pass up Kessel by end of next season if he keeps up this pace.

Minnesota coming in #2 in the nation in # of Academic All-Americans, with 11. Think that moves them into like 11th all-time in history, with many of those in the Top Ten not being Division 1 schools.

Thats not conducive to winning championships.

Well it seems oregon & usc fans are clowning minnesota…on page 1… usc is now b1g… oregon wants in too… both schools combined have 0 big ten championships. No bragging rights for schools who are wannabes and who nip your heels to one day be your equal.

They can clown Minnesota all the want, UMn has won more cfb games than USC has the last 6 seasons, so what are they clowning? And Oregon has won a whole game or two if they claim the bullshit covid conf title game they got invited to because no one else could play, over the last 6 seasons, so what are they clowning about, winning ONE WHOLE legit more games than UMn??? That's what chumps do. They won that 1 extra game vs much inferior opponents is my argument, lol.

UMn football ranked going into this weekend's games...

#1 nationally in Time of Possession, and it's not even close, 44 minutes to 41 in 2nd and 37 in 3rd. They added another 39 in game 2.
#1 nationally in Total Defense
#1 nationally in Scoring Defense
#1 nationally in Red Zone Defense
#1 nationally in Red Zone Offense
#2 nationally in First downs Defense
#3 nationally in Passing yards allowed
#4 nationally in Team passing efficiency Defense
#4 nationally in 3rd down conversion percentage
#7 nationally in fewest penalties, with 3 for 35 and added just 3 for 28 in game 2.
#7 nationally in Rushing Offense
#10 nationally in Rushing Defense, with 38 yards allowed in game one and just 35 yards allowed now in game 2.
#24 nationally in First downs Offense, with 31, but would be closer to #7 if it was figured per game, it's a cumulative ranking so 17 teams with 2 games played going into this weekends games, ranked higher. UMn got 35 more in game 2 today, so they should move up and better than #7 if looked at per game.

Gophers weren't ranked Top 20 in

3rd Down Conv % Defense, with 2 of 9 allowed in game one they were #23, and only allowed 1 of 13 in game two. 3 of 22 should have them easily in the Top 20, if not the Top 10, after the weekend slate is complete.

4th Down Conv % Defense, with 0 attempted in game one, they were listed as tied for 1st, but that seems silly to me, but they denied both attempts in game 2, so that should get them into the Top 20.

Completion %, they were ranked 39th going 16 of 23 in game one, and going 18 of 25 in game two should move them close as many teams ahead of them will drop.

Fewest Penalty yards, they were ranked #22 with just 35 penalty yards in game one, and with only 28 in game two, they'll likely make Top 20.

Passing yards per completion, they weren't even ranked Top 50 after only averaging between 11-12 yards per completion in week one, but bumped that average to 16.47 after game two, which should have them close to the Top Ten.

Scoring Offense, despite blanking our opponent in game one, our style of running and eating up the clock kept us down to 38 points scored in game one so not even Top 50, but another 62 points in game two moves us up into 3rd at the moment, as 2 teams have played 3 games to UMn's and Miami's 2 games, but UMn easily has the largest margin of victory average nationally at 50 per game with Miami at 45 per game.

Total Offense, we were 38th after our 485 yards of total offense in game one, but our 679 yards in game two gives us an average of 582 per game which should move us up into the Top 10.

Now best thing about all of those rankings are that the Gophers are ranked very well in BOTH defensive and offensive statistical categories, and not just good at defending the run and good at running the ball, but also good at defending the pass and good at passing the ball as well.

Granted our opposition has been minimal, but I'm not trying to claim UMn's the best team in the country. What these stats could be pointing to is UMn's being the best team in the B1G West Divison, and deserving of a Top 25 ranking. But as is usual, the pollsters will wait and make the Gophers prove themselves first, most likely that chance won't come til game 4 vs Michigan State.

6th year QB has a great QB rating, 6th year RB has the nation's longest 100 yard game streak of 11, and is fast approaching the school record for rushing tds, 6th year WR has the nation's longest streak of catches in every game at 40, needs a catch in the next 7 games to break the school record, 6th year Center is the team's best chance at gaining a 1st team All-America status as he already made one pre-season 1st team All-America team. And that's the offense, our defense is arguably the #1 ranked defense in the nation right now.

maybe, but I doubt it, the West Division sure, but the conference title? I don't think anyone can beat OSU this year. I hope that I'm wrong.

could depend on injuries, if UMn doesn't suffer any injuries to key players before the Conf title game, they could pull off an upset, but it would definitely be an upset. For now I'll hope we can handle Colorado and then Mich St will be a big test.

UMn's updated rankings after last weekend's games,

#1 in Total Defense,
#1 in Total Offense,
#1 in Time of Possession,
#1 in 1st downs Defense,
#1 in 1st downs Offense,
#1 in Red Zone Offense,
#1 in 4th down conv %,
#1 in 4th down conv % Defense,
#1 in Sacks Allowed,
#1 in Blocked Punts Allowed,
#1 in Blocked Kicks Allowed,
#1 in Passes had Intercepted,
#1 in Winning Percentage,
#2 in Rushing Offense,
#2 in Scoring Defense,
#2 in 3rd down conv %,
#2 in 3rd down conv % Defense,
#2 in Fewest Penalties,
#2 in Fewest Penalties per game,
#3 in Rushing Defense,
#5 in Passing Yards per completion,
#5 in Passing Yards Allowed,
#7 in Scoring Offense,
#7 in Tackles for a loss Allowed,
#8 in Team Passing Efficiency Defense,
#11 in Fewest Penalty Yards,
#11 in Fewest Penalty Yards per game,
#12 in Turnovers Lost,
#13 in Punt Return Defense,
#16 in Team Passing Efficiency,
#20 in Completion %,

#38 in Passing Offense,
#39 in Turnover Margin,
#41 in Passes Intercepted,
#42 in Kickoff Returns,
#43 in Fumbles Lost,

#83 in Net Punting,
#86 in Team Sacks,
#88 in Turnovers Gained,
#89 in Team Tackles for a loss,
#98 in Red Zone Defense,
#112 in Punt Returns,
#115 in Kickoff Return Defense.

Those last 6 have to be understood in the fact that UMn rarely punted, and the opponents were on the field so seldom, there were less opportunities to sack them or cause them to turn it over or tackle them for a loss, and were only allowed into the red zone once when a ref called a questionable roughing the passer call, so instead of it being a sack that knocked them out of fg range, the ref moved them up into fg range. The only one that really was a truly bad state was the kickoff return defense as the Gophers allowed two returns that they shouldn't have.
