As long as the Lions can keep their focus on the next opponent they should be competitive in each game. None of these teams will be willing to just lay down. It was good to see Goff emphasize one game at a time after the win this past weekend.

FiveThirtyEight

Odds to make the playoffs: 20%
Odds of winning the division: 0.2%

The cool thing about FiveThirtyEight’s model is that they will adjust playoff odds if you play around with future outcomes. For example: if the Lions go 4-0 down the stretch, they have a 91 percent chance of making the playoffs. If they go 3-1 (with a loss to the Jets), that drops down to 43 percent. If that loss comes against an NFC team, their odds fall somewhere between 36 and 41 percent, depending on the opponent.

New York Times

4-0 finish: 93% chance at playoffs
3-1 finish: 34-40% chance at playoffs (depending on who the loss comes against)

PlayoffStatus.com

  • 4-0 finish: 85% chance at playoffs
  • 3-1 finish: 30% chance at playoffs
  • 2-2 finish: 1% chance at playoffs
continue to root against the Seahawks, Giants and Commanders.

“They are making a playoff push, which is impressive. Jared Goff has been outstanding.”

Top 10 appears to be a stretch to say the least, but I could see where one might rank them in the 14-16 range

I bet if I read each write up in those Power Rankings, every single one that had lions 15 or later talk about the worst defense in the NFL. Those that have them at 10 talk about the defense over the last 6 weeks or don't mention the defense.

Looking at the number as a whole the D looks significantly worse than it has played down the stretch. I think 10 is not an outrageous number.

From Pete Prisco:
LOL at CBS. Lions thrash their number 4 team and only move up 1 spot. They continue to be a joke and will never change. We should easily be in the low teens by now.

Giants and Commanders play again so we only need to route against the loser of that game. If they tie again I will scream. Hopefully the Commanders win as the Giants have a tougher schedule. As does Seattle. 3-1 should get it done for us if the Giants lose this week.

Well written article in my opinion. The one caveat is the questioning of whether Goff is just a bridge QB and leaning towards drafting Young, Stroud or Levis. It's reasonable to question if Goff should be retained as he hasn't had a complete season in a season of the good consistency throughout, but at the very least he's shown an ability to be hopeful that he can be consistent with the correct resources around him.

I also thought it was interesting that the only position group getting regular minutes from previous regime is the DB's, which is the weakest part of our defense.

This is an example of what I talked about regarding Jameson and his willingness to headhunt in the blocking aspect of his game. He was tripped up in the end by his teammate crashing down on that player's opponent.

Damn good point, Mebert.

Patricia and his scheme coinciding with the position coaches he had may very well have been the problem all along or at a minimum one of the biggest reasons as to why they all suffered through a labored development.

As much as I dislike the play of Will Harris, he's been somewhat decent as a nickel CB or as an emergency replacement outside CB. Harris like many other NFL CB will struggle but in defense of that backfield unit as a whole, the injuries stymie chemistry and continuity amongst them. Communication is difficult to develop when there exists constant change in which players are available on "any given Sunday".

Look at the difference between Hutch and James Houston with regards to their ability or inability to rotate their shoulders beyond 30 degrees. Houston for the most part does it regularly whereas Hutch is a little stiffer in his torso.

Three clips of Hutch and only one of Houston.

This clip right here is a perfect example of Hutch needing to contort his torso more.

Now look at Houston's clip and he's fairly regular in his ability to get beyond 30 degrees.

Damn, Rodriguez certainly flashes. It's good to see some of these replayed.

Rodriguez is lined up where a RT normally would be. This is awesome to watch.

BB_72: It's little nuances like the following that get me excited for the future for all of these draft picks. Communication, Communication, Communication is key and not to mention coming from players in their rookie season.

Watch the chemistry here between the two-rookie pass-rushers. Right before the snap, Houston leans over to Hutchinson, likely to pass along information about the game they are about to run. Once snapped, Hutchinson works up the field, attacking the inside shoulder of the left tackle. Doing this, he makes the left guard look at him for just a moment, allowing Houston to loop around and under the would-be blocker. If he somehow got Cousins down for a safety here, I think the roof would have come off of Ford Field.

Condensed version is Decker had appendicitis for a month of in season games and it started 12 days before the first game of the 2020 season and having just signed his extension and he played through that pain. He was prescribed antibiotics rather going the surgery route.

From POD

Decker, to this day, still has his appendix. And as for his play during that rough, physical stretch, he didn’t allow a single sack, and he finished the season with his current highest PFF grade to date (85.8).

That’s one tough son of a bitch.

Damn the 2021 class of drafted players could be the cornerstone of this team for years to come.

I hope players Holmes drafts from here on out continue to display the ability to be NFL caliber players.

I'm not sure how Goff wins this week's award as his stats were slightly less than Cousins and Lawrence, but I like the recognition he is getting and maybe put some of the naysayers, like me, to rest.

Goff: 27-of-39, 330 yards (8.5 Y/A), 3 TDs, 0 INTs, 120.7 passer rating
Cousins: 31-of-41, 425 yards (10.4 Y/A), 2 TDs, 0 INTs, 124.5 passer rating
Lawrence: 30-of-42, 368 yards, (8.8 Y/A), 3 TDs, 0 INTs, 121.9 passer rating

Goff is getting a ton of praise for his play as of late, and rightfully so. His PFF grade over the last two weeks is 84.7, which ranks him sixth in the NFL.
