He eyeballs ARSB too much though. Needs to find others more often or defenses will adjust. Surprised they just dont double him and blitz. That would shut down our entire passing game.

Goff needs to learn to stop dropping 10 yards behind the L.O.S. He's already 5 yards behind when in shotgun and he also needs to throw the ball to his second read much quicker. He leaves his receiving options in dire straits to take big hits from defenders when it's completely unnecessary.

I have no clue as to the how in the world whoever is responsible for coming to this conclusion, but I'll certainly welcome it.

WR Cephus will be at practice and on the active 21-day clock to either play by December 28th or go back on IR.

From LionsWire

The Lions have several players slated to hit free agency after this season ends. But only two of the pending free agents earned mention by PFF as one of the top five pending free agents at their respective positions. Wide receiver DJ Chark and right guard Evan Brown.

Those two are joined by running back Jamaal Williams as the only offensive starters with expiring contracts.

BB_72: I hope some teams signs Even Brown to a 4-year 16M-20M contract this upcoming off-season. That should be good enough for a 5th round comp pick in 2024 - a 6th at worse.

Speaking of Chark, I've changed my mind with him about letting him sign elsewhere next year. If he would sign a deal similar to the original, I'd be for that. He will already cost 5.976M for that voided year and by re-signing him, so long as he remains 100% healthy here on out, then that's a hole Holmes wouldn't have to fill. Plus, Goff had great chemistry with him during training camp until he came up gimpy.

On defense, there are four current starters playing out the end of their contracts:

  • LB Alex Anzalone
  • DT Isaiah Buggs
  • S DeShon Elliott
  • CB Will Harris
Cornerback Mike Hughes also plays quite a bit and started four games, though Hughes only played on special teams in the Week 13 win over Jacksonville. Kicker Michael Badgley, who has been excellent since taking over midseason, is also slated for free agency.

The Lions have contractual control over every other starter on both sides of the ball. Only Chark (53), Hughes (58) and Williams (85) earned places in the top 100 pending free agents from NFL Trade Rumors. That list probably needs to be updated with Williams as the top free agent talent in Detroit, but the broader point remains: the core of the Lions team will come back largely intact.

Prediction

Holmes will attempt to re-sign DB Will Harris, DeShon Elliot and Isaiah Buggs.
I wouldn't be shocked to see him give Anzalone one more year also, so he isn't pigeon-holed when the draft rolls around.

How is Elliot not in that top 100?

There's a handful of players this week with illness listed. Is it the flu bug going around Michigan or the leftover remnants from the Bills as they had several players with the flu?

Hopefully Romeo Okwara and Ifeatu Melifonwu start getting some reps.

We need to see what Iffy can provide from here on out. They moved him to safety this summer and at least during those final three games @Panthers, Bears and @Packers it's vital to know if he's worthy of retaining.

Thibodeaux has Leonard Williams, Dextor Lawrence and Ojulari
Karlaftis has Chris Jones, Carlos Dunlop and Frank Clark - the latter not the production they expected
Hutch doesn't those type of players where opponents also have to scheme against them.

Not to be Donnie downer but the Lions have 3 of their last four games on the road. these games may very well be tougher than expected

@NYJ
@CAR
CHI
@GB

The Texans of all teams nearly beat the Cowboy's at Jerry's World fun park only to lose with 40 seconds to go
The Jaguars thumped the Titans at Nashville
The Panthers throttled the Seahawks even though the latter scored a TD with 16 seconds to go to making it appear a closer game
The NYJ played a close game at the Bills even though a late FG by the Jets made the final score a one score game.

No team should be taken for granted.

Our Lions are coming off three consecutive home games. Every road game is tough to win.

I hope the players take every team seriously from here on out.

The last 2 games should be against teams out of the playoffs already although if it snows in GB we could have a problem. The first 2 I am concerned about. Those teams are desperate and are going to be dog fights.
