St. Brown is the first to notch 150 career receptions and also top 150 rushing yards in his first 30 games. The “Sun God” hit exactly 150 rushing yards with his six-yard carry in the Week 14 win over the Minnesota Vikings. He’s pulled down 172 receptions in a Lions uniform.

Deebo Samuel of the 49ers came close, but he only made it to 139 receptions in his first 30 NFL games.

10 Lions players finished among the top 10 at their position, led by rookie Aidan Hutchinson, who finished second among defensive ends, behind only San Francisco's Nick Bosa, who is leading the NFL with 15½ sacks and is among the favorites to be named the league's defensive MVP.

Other Lions who finished in the top 10 were center Frank Ragnow (third), offensive tackles Penei Sewell (fourth) and Taylor Decker (sixth), guard Jonah Jackson (seventh), running back Jamaal Williams (ninth), strong safety Deshon Elliott (seventh), quarterback Jared Goff (10th), wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown (sixth) and free safety Kerby Joseph (third).

The fan vote will count as one-third of the final tally, with the other two-thirds made up of the league's coaches and players. The full roster of 88 players (44 for each conference) is scheduled to be announced Wednesday at 8 p.m.

Buggs is rounding into a pleasant surprise. But Cominsky has been outstanding. Tremendous waiver claim. He's got to be the A-1 priority re-sign. And it won't be easy.

I would like to see both re-signed for a year or two. The Lions may very well be sitting in position to draft Clemson Edge defender Myles Murphy who could be an answer going forward to replace Cominsky. He is arguably the best run defending Edge player in this draft. He has the tools to become better at pass rushing but statistically we haven't seen it from him at the CFB level in an elite manner.

I kind of view Murphy as the much better projected prospect at what Cominsky shows on the field.

Wild Card race (top three advance)

  1. Cowboys: 10-4
  2. Giants: 8-5-1
  3. Commanders: 7-6-1
  4. Seahawks: 7-7
  5. Lions: 7-7
  6. Packers: 6-8
In order to clinch a playoff spot before Week 18, the Lions—quite simply—need to be in a playoff spot, and at least 1.5 games ahead of their competition. Considering they’re just 0.5 games behind the Commanders, and a tiebreaker (which we can define as a 0.5 game as well) behind the Seahawks. It’s clear what needs to happen between those three teams:

  • Detroit needs to win the next two games (at Panthers, vs. Bears)
  • The Seahawks need to lose the next two games, or lose and tie one (at Chiefs, vs. Jets)
  • The Commanders need to lose the next two games, or lose and tie one (at 49ers, vs. Browns)
If that happens, here are the records of the three teams:

  1. Lions: 9-7
  2. Commanders: 7-8-1 (or 7-7-2)
  3. Seahawks: 7-9 (or 7-8-1)
Obviously, none of those teams could catch Detroit in that scenario with only one game remaining.

But there is one more piece to the puzzle: if the Packers won their next two games, they would be headed into Week 18 just a game behind the Lions at 8-8. A Packers win would draw them even with the Lions, and it would go to tiebreakers. They’d be tied in head-to-head, division record, record in common games, and conference record. So it would go to a fifth tiebreaker: strength of victory—or the combined record of the teams you beat. Right now, that tiebreak would slightly favor the Packers if they go on a run, but it’s close enough to change based on the outcomes of the next three weeks.

To avoid that mess, the Lions simply need one additional thing to happen: the Packers lose or tie one game before the finale.

Kalif Raymond is one of three players in the NFL this year to return a punt for a TD.

He also just won honors as the return specialist of week 15.

The top offensive overall grade went to WR Amon-Ra St. Brown with an 82.7. His grade was bolstered by a strong 70.1 run blocking grade.

The rest of the top five on offense:

WR Kalif Raymond 79.5

RT Penei Sewell 78.1

LT Taylor Decker 73.7

RB D’Andre Swift 70.1

Special mention for Decker, who did not allow a sack for the eighth straight game. He did give up two pressures against the Jets but finished his sixth straight game with zero penalties.

Aidan Hutchinson earned the top grade for Detroit’s defense with an overall 83.4. his 81.0 run defense grade and 74.6 tackling grade also topped all Lions defenders.

Rounding out the top five:

DT Alim McNeill 78.6
S C.J. Moore 71.9
LB Alex Anzalone 71.5
LB Malcolm Rodriguez 70.0

Rodriguez was hurt by a poor tackling grade of 29.2, though the rookie managed the best coverage grade (67.0) on the entire team. Anzalone logged a team-high four QB hurries, none more important than on the Jets’ final offensive play.

Rodriguez being best in coverage is a huge step forward for him

To avoid that mess, the Lions simply need one additional thing to happen: the Packers lose or tie one game before the finale.

The Lions can control the outcome by winning out, beating the Packers in week eighteen. If they’re going to take the next step, they have to win on the road. It would be nice if week eighteen didn’t mean anything, but learning to win as an organization first means going into every game expecting to win.

Winning out also means we have the best in division record at 5 - 1. It’s becoming an entertaining year.
