not so much for New Orleans. Davenport can't stay healthy and N.O. was somewhere around 26-28 and moved up to 14 giving up the next years 1st round pick plus that 2018 1st.

just trying to see if there exists any correlation physically to each position they use in 3-4 and 4-3 base defenses. draft and free agency

plus I'm bored to death

It seems like Saints spent way more early round draft capital, but had worse results......glad our drafting is coming from the Rams!

Looking at the physical presence and specifically the NT position in LAR scheme, I'd think 2021 draft prospects would appear to be players who possess speed and power similar to NCSt Alim McNeil, BYU Khyiris Tonga, aTM Bobby Brown but have the high motor. similar to Penisini.

Releasing Danny Shelton kind of gives me that vibe as he's not a pocket pressure type iDL and is more in line with maintain gap.

IDK. I may be way off.

2011, 2016 and 2018 spending 1sr round picks on their own guys doesn't seem too far off, imo.
C. Jordan in 2011 and then iDL Rankins 2016 to help get pressure inside and 2018 to make that run to a SB with EDGE Davenport was a high risk reward - that hasn't produced yet, but their Offense was in damn good shape at that time.

Lions free agency rumors: Detroit has shown ‘preliminary interest’ in safety Keanu Neal - Pride Of Detroit

just say NO. NO. NO.

gawd, if they sign any damn player that has had a long injury history, even on a 1 year prove it deal, I'd be pissed. I don't care if these players have youth on their side or whatever their excuse may be. He's missed 32/81 possible games to be played due to injuries.

Stay the eff away from these type of players.

The same goes for Malik Hooker if they become interested in him too.

Kenny that mistake you made not accepting an extension with the team that drafted you, "That shit gonn cost U".

But I'm happy as hell that we currently aren't seeking to keep him. and it better stay that way.

Jalen Reeves-Maybin contract details: Detroit Lions take advantage of new CBA rule - Pride Of Detroit

This is pretty cool how they got to keep JRM and at a nice discount for cap space even though it's a relatively small amount. There's more to than the little bit I'm posting. All made possible through the newest CBA that are original team draftee and 4 year vet.

The Lions offered Reeves-Maybin the $990,000 base, plus the full $1.25 million option, as well as the $137,500 signing bonus, which equates to a one-year $2,377,500 contract. Additionally, to sweeten the pot, the Lions fully guaranteed the offer and Reeves-Maybin accepted.

While the Lions will be paying Reeves-Maybin $2,377,500 in 2021, $1.25 million of it does not count against the cap. Therefore, Lions’ will only have $1,127,500 count towards their salary cap this season.

Do you believe USC DT Jay Tufele can play that Big DE similar to what the Rams have Brockers playing ? The latter was a DT while at LSU and has performed admirably as a strong side DE.

I've seen multiple times in just two short versions of two actual games - not highlights only - where Tufele was a 5, 4i.

Thoughts on the 1st day of NFL free agency deals through Lions eyes (usatoday.com)

BB_72: not to harp on Jarrad Davis but........

Davis agreed to terms on a one-year, $7 million deal with the New York Jets. That’s a steep price tag for Davis, who played his way out of the starting lineup on a bad Detroit defense. The Lions did have some interest in bringing Davis back on a “prove-it” kind of deal. The Jets paid him as if he’s already proven to be one of the NFL’s better off-ball LBs; his $7 million salary is 18th amongst all off-ball LBs.

You’ll have a hard time finding anyone who thinks Davis is one of the top 18 off-ball LBs in the league. He didn’t even feel like a top-18 off-ball LB in the four-team NFC North for most of his career. That’s the danger of having excess money to spend, something that doesn’t plague Holmes and the Lions right now.

Thoughts on the 1st day of NFL free agency deals through Lions eyes (usatoday.com)

There are still some appealing targets out there at several positions. Wideouts like Curtis Samuel, Josh Reynolds, Rashard Higgins, Dede Westbrook, they’re all still out there. All fit the criteria I want to see the Lions implement this year in free agency:

  • 28 or younger
  • Capable of being positive contributors in 2023
  • Clearly defined role in the offense
Other than Samuel, who should command more than Corey Davis got from the Jets, none should cost more than $5 million per year either.

BB_72: They need to lower that age preference to 26 years and under as far as I'm concerned

Thoughts on the 1st day of NFL free agency deals through Lions eyes (usatoday.com)

However, some free agents who were popularly speculated to interest the Lions also came off the board. And some of the deals they signed were eminently affordable and would have been useful for Detroit. Two really caught my eye:

Both players came in cheaper than widely anticipated. Johnson agreed to sign for $33.75 million over four years

BB_72: JJ lll reported contract yesterday was for 3 years and 33.75M. I sure as hell hope that 4 years is a typo but I can see why he'd choose the Browns over the Lions as the former is ready for a playoff run after this past years 1st playoff appearance in 2 decades.

Nick Williams: ‘Let’s see how these kneecaps taste’ (usatoday.com)

Defensive tackle Nick Williams has been the subject of a lot of rumors during the past few weeks. On Tuesday, the Lions defensive tackle offered up a cryptic tweet that seems to answer some questions.

It could be a sign that Williams has been given assurances he will be back in Detroit for a second season.

In the games I watched he was almost exclusively a 3. He has good not great strength and a few pass rush moves BR, swim, and club. The thing I really like about him is his awareness of the ball and his effort he's great at shedding blockers and chasing it down.

This is a good one if you haven't seen it already
