I am not that far from the Delta. I used to upland hunt around it for many years. I know some youngsters that do some wild party boat partying in the Delta come summer time. I did not know the canal was half built. Wouldn't surprise me.

Before the canal went up for approval, the path that it would have been routed was surveyed.
Farmers were offered "free ponds" and the dirt was used to finish I-5. If you look at all these conspicuously long and skinny ponds from the air, much of the digging and easements was already completed. That's all they would have to do was "connect the dots" Pretty sneaky......
I'm an Engineer and spent too much time on the Delta to not notice.....
