That title scared the crap out of me.

No, I think Levy is a better player then Houston, but teams pay for pass rush specialists, not for coverage linebackers. Levy is better at coverage, and stopping the run.

While I agree, this (or more) is the kind of money Levy and his agent will get from someone. The bar has been set.

I'm the only poster here who correctly predicted that Suh would get a contract bigger than Watt's. So let's not play the "I would only pay him so and so much" game and instead discuss the reality of things. Levy and his agent have been waiting for this a Houston deal to get done. That's how it works. Just like Dez and DT want Megatron money.

40-50 million guaranteed. That's what Levy will ask for, because statistically, he was a top 3 LB last year (assuming he doesn't go all year without a new contract).

Is he worth it, OL? Yes or no?

No.

This is not even realistic. Houston is a 3-4 OLB which get paid like DE. He had 22 sacks playing what equated to DE. Levy will be lucky to see half that as a regular 4-3 OLB.

If some scrub team wants to pay double that then good luck. That's why they are scrubs. Overpaying positions like 4-3 LB and DT is a recipe for failure.

not to mention a weak-side LB that doesn't blitz all that much. he drops into coverage waaaaaaay more than he'll ever get a sniff of blitzing.

pretty much agree here above. maybe upwards to 9M avg per year from someone. sure as HELL WON'T be the Lions.

BOOK IT, DANO !!! five-O style

If some scrub team wants to pay double that then good luck

if he's after big bucks only, then that's what will happen. he'll go to some team with a barge full of $$$.

He will get more than Lavonte David, so we have to wait for that show to drop. LB is already the third highest paid position in the game. Whatever he gets, it's gonna be big. Same with Slay, Ansah, Warford. They won't all be Lions.

meh ? not sure about that. depends who gets their contract 1st.

I would tend to lean to the side Levy would want to test the market. plus he no longer has Suh so he'll probably decline immensely. someone will still over pay him should he not do as well statisically this upcoming season.

Interesting. I don't think Levy is in the same breath as Houston. Houston is more than likely a top 10 defensive player in the entire NFL. Possibly top 5 and just turned 26 years old. Levy is almost 30 now I believe? There are probably at least 20 players I would pick over Levy if drafting a defense from scratch.

Houston is a pass rusher only. I don't think he adds anything to run support or coverage. I think Houston has a single skill that he excels at, but Levy is a more complete player. That could also be because Houston is not asked to do anything else, who knows.

This coming from the only guy on Earth who understands the cap worse than Mayhew.

If I were McCoy's agent I would delay and delay wanting the ridiculous Suh deal to get done first and then ask for the same or better. I saw an article recently, believe it was Bleacher Report, that ranked the DT's in the league. Suh was #5 and McCoy #1. He has every reason to want more

Good call there, Mayhew Jr.

Is Levy one of the elite players you mentioned a couple of days ago? (Or maybe that was OL?)

It was me, and yes I think Levy is elite. I wish the league would not consider pass rush linebackers the same position as slb.

I think CJ, Warford, Ansah, Levy, and Quinn are elite, and Slay has the potential to be this year. I have not really been watching Ngata to have an opinion on whether or not he is the same player

My take: Barry, Calvin and Suh are the only players in recent past that are truly elite. The other guys mentioned all have great potential, whether they become elite has yet to be determined.

What in your estimation is a "scrub team"?
