I think Suh is an unbelievable talent. Just curious about why the new coaching staff is eager to rid of him?
My best guess is that while he makes plays. He makes more that puts the TEAM in a hole .
He could be the best DT in the league . If only he could clean his game up.
Just sayin, from an unbiased opinion . He can play. But rules dictate the game. Seems he doesn't care about rules. Which makes him a loose cannon.
Who wants 1 of those around?

Not sure the coaching staff is eager to get rid of him. If so, Aaron Donald would of been the pick.

The coaching staff most certainly doesnt want to get rid of him. That would be stupid. The bigger question is just how much do they actually know about the status of contract negotiations?

I'm betting what they are hearing from The Clown Show is not to worry and that it will get done, the same thing they are telling fans. How many different lies have they told us already this offseason? It's the most attractive job opening, expect a deal to be done on the eve of FA, before the draft, doesn't really matter when a new deal gets done, etc, etc.

By now everybody should have learned not to believe anything they say until it has actually happened

So the Bucs have opened extension talks with Gerald McCoy. Don't expect Suh to do anything until that deal is done. Then he will use his staggering leverage to ask for more. The Bucs have no cap issues so they really don't have to hurry and although it wouldn't be their best option they could franchise him for about $18m next season if they had to.

If I were McCoy's agent I would delay and delay wanting the ridiculous Suh deal to get done first and then ask for the same or better. I saw an article recently, believe it was Bleacher Report, that ranked the DT's in the league. Suh was #5 and McCoy #1. He has every reason to want more and is in a good position to wait it out if he wants to and get it. Suh's agent knows that as well. What's the worst thing that happens to his client? He becomes a FA and gets a big payday anyway next year. Who blinks first here?

The Clown Show has fucked this team up so badly its unreal. Only the Lions would hire these two asshats. Once they are finally fired they will never work in the NFL again. What could either guy put on a resume that any other franchise that cares about winning would be interested in?

Your first mistake was taking this seriously. BR is comprised of writers that couldn't even hack it on a message board.

I understand you hate the Lions F.O., but using them as a "source" isn't the best thing to do, imo.

The entire point of my post had to do with how McCoy in extension talks could impact our attempts at getting a deal done with Suh.

And opinions outside of those expressed on this board aren't in universal agreement that Suh is the league's best DT. That's not something that is exclusive to BR, whether they suck or not. You could very easily make a case for both Atkins and McCoy.

Yes I know. I was only commenting on the BR quote though.

I hope our Lions get a good deal done with Suh but I'm also content in letting him walk and then all the sudden be rich again to sign 3 or 4 guys in Free Agency next year with his money......Is Suh really worth 3 or 4 free agents with the contract he will command?

Sure it would be nice to have a team friendly contract but that's not the name of the game. It's to get paid as much as you can so therefore I don't see Suh being around because quite frankly the Lions can't afford him.

Mayock also said he thought Mccoy was better than Suh prior to the draft.

Problem is... Mccoy has never proved to be better than Suh.

Suh has made 1st or 2nd team "ALL-PRO" 3 of 4 seasons. Mccoy has made 1 all-pro selection in 4 seasons.

I am not taking the position that I think McCoy is better. My point was solely related to what his extension talks might mean to Suh's extension talks.

That being said Suh was much better as a rookie and McCoy was injured most of his second year. However, their stats are virtually identical over the last two seasons with each making the Pro Bowl in both.

My speculation is Suh is 50/50 on staying. Hard to want to re-up with a perennial losing franchise. I think he is going to wait this year out and see if Caldwell can turn it round.

If you aren't worried yet I think its time to start. The complete silence here is troubling. The team is certainly aware of this situation as well and I cant help but think that it will be a big time distraction if camp opens without a new deal in place. Every interview they do they'll be ask about it.

If this doesn't get done, or gets done at a simply ridiculous amount, it will be a blunder that could surpass the combined stupidity of the Millen days. They had to know what Suh's camp was looking for before the draft. That was there chance to move him at get valuable picks in a deep draft.

With a brand new dead $ hit from Houston now of $3.9m for next year, the issue with Fairly, and the significantly escalating amounts from not only Stafford and CJ but several other guys we could be looking at real problems next offseason. And we would still be carrying almost another $10m in dead $ from Suh, who will be playing eslewhere.

I have said over and over again that cap increases, even if there is another big one next year, is not the way out of cap hell. Contracts are simply getting bigger and we have to pay those no different than everyone else so we go nowhere in improving our problem by that.

In fact, we have already spent a potential increase of about $14m because thats what Houston and Suh would count and neither would be playing here. Mayhew and Lewand need to get shit canned together (and the sooner the better) because both are clueless asshats.

I am starting to think it does not get done. One of the few right things Mayhew may be doing is not letting Suh r*pe the Lions for 16 mill a year. (of course their wrong put them in this position) Only to still haunt the Lions next year with dead money and not be able even attempt to replace any type of talent until 2015 off season.

I hope I eat crowe and am wrong and Suh stays in Detroit. We as fans need to also realize after resigning him also means cap hell for many years to come.

Nice read Gandy. Very interesting that they compared pretty well every relevant aspect of the other top 5 DT contracts recently signed. Here's their final estimate:

Spotrac's Prediction: 5 years, $52,440,000

Average annual salary: $10,488,000
Guaranteed: $28,000,000 (53.4%)

I could certainly live with those numbers. Honestly, as long as the annual average is right around $12 million or less I think that's acceptable, at least in my book...

If Suh was only asking for 10.5 mil a year with 28 mil guaranteed, he would already be signed.

A decent read from spotrac about Suh.

Contract Forecast: Ndamukong Suh

:laugh3:

I'll be the first one on here to apologize for my rants if his deal doesnt exceed that idiotic projection by a fair amount. There is no reason in the world for him to sign a deal like that this year, none.

Does anyone on here seriously believe this deal wouldnt already be done if they could sign him for less than they pay him now? Get serious.

If his agent is any good at all the first thing he would have told the Lions is to not even bring forth an offer where he isnt the highest paid DT in the league and at a premium to what he is paid now. Then leave the room or hang up the phone.

I dont doubt at all that he could get a $13m/yr deal in the open market from all the teams who have plenty of cap space. And that is without the huge negotiating leverage he has against the Lions. The only part of that article worth a shit is the first paragraph talking about how the Lions have been playing with fire with all the contract restructing.
