Damn......Ephland and Bennie have good stats there.

Perhaps I stand corrected, and/or was not giving Detwiler his due.

In Ogando's case, he was certainly rushed. But at least Detwiler was a starter - logged about 160 innings in 2012, think it was - so maybe he hits the ground running like he'd never heard of the BP.

In the year that Ogando was a successful starter for us he did that without having ever pitched more than 41 innings in professional ball. I believe he gave us over 160 innings that year and only had to miss one start down the stretch. That made his season even more amazing, but may have also led to his arm problems after that. In hindsight, he probably should have been eased into the starting role. Either that or maybe he should have been allowed to develop as a starter in the minors instead of coming up here as a reliever.

Winner!

Very interesting....thanks for the post.

It appears the answer to my question of "reasonable number from one year to the next" is there really isn't a norm here. CJ blew the doors off, and a couple of these guys have never been heard from since.

Like I said, I was working from my - often bad - memory and was thinking Nick gave us about 115-120 last year, when in reality, it was 140.

We're all gonna get our first look Ross this evening, and let's hope he looks a lot more like Colby than Gallardo.

There was a study done a few years back that followed younger pitchers who increased their innings a substantial amount from one year to the next. It found out that in the year after their innings were ramped up that their performances suffered significantly. They usually did okay in the ramp up year, but suffered the next season.

Ogando was an outfielder converted to a pitcher in 2005 , and then was jerked back and forth. Its unfortunate he had the arm issues but I can't say I'm surprised

Always liked Ogando actually. But his arm action is so violent, when I'd see him throw I'd think, "he won't make it through the night, much less the season."

Yeah it hurts my arm thinking about it

Agree. Those pitching mechanics were tough on his arm.

These were tough to decide on. I can't believe they didn't include Jim Sundberg or Toby Harrah. The problem with contests like this is they often overlook what happened several years ago and over emphasize more current players.

Jeff Burroughs should have gotten some love (I know, there's a write-in slot).

Edit: I wrote him in, and gave the other votes to Nolan, Pudge, and Juan-Gone.

These late games stink, need more day baseball. Cards/Cubs got a good one going on but the Tigers are pounding the Twinks

I look at the options and I'm stunned and stumped as to why a player would even be listed as a potential all time player with a franchise when he played 95 games for them.

I know Frank Howard helped usher in professional baseball to Texas and all. But 95 games, 9 HR, with 31 RBI shouldn't get you mentioned, IMO period.

Jim Sunberg, was a terrific player for 10 years, won 4 GG, and still is with the organization. He should have been there instead of Howard.

I wrote in Sundberg and went with him, Pudge, Juan, and Raffy. I would have probably went with Nolan 5th. Very hard decisions.
