Detweiler is really the only one I am concerned about whether we'll get enough innings out of. I could see that going either way.

Hope you're right. But if you told me right now, we'd get 250 innings outta Detweiler/Martinez I'd be delighted.

Rangers' Nick Tepesch (elbow) sidelined for about one month

Rangers pitcher Nick Tepesch is expected to open the season on the minor-league disabled list due to elbow inflammation, the Dallas Morning Newsreports.

Tepesch is set to miss about a month due to the issue, which he said is similar to an injury he had in 2013 that caused him to miss six weeks. He lost out on a competition for a major-league rotation spot this spring.

Tep won't be up for a considerable amount of time, if he is called up

That's only 125 each. I think that's perfectly reasonable to expect that.

If we need anyone post ASB, I'm betting Gonzalez gets the nod if he's tearing it up in AAA a la Perez in 2013.

Here's the potential problem I see with our BP; the starters.

I'm just not comfortable with how many innings we're gonna get outta that five-some. Although I feel good - baring any major health problems - about Holland & Gallardo, after that it concerns me.

Colby, and not even taking into account of his injury concerns, will be 36 late in the season. And with Yu gone, there went 190-210 innings - quality innings at that - and I'm wondering if we'll get 10% more than this outta the combination of Detwiler/Martinez.

That's a lot of lost starter innings.

I see all of our 5 starters giving us 160-200 innings, if Detwiler and Martinez both get to about 160+ semi-quality innings, I'm happy with our #4 & #5 (4ish ERA), but I actually see Detwiler being in the high 3s

Colby I see around 170-180, ERA will always be inflated due to starts in HR parks and his fly ball tendency

Holland 180+ & Gallardo around 180+ as well, probably closer to 200 for each

I don't see that happening until a couple months down the road, if before the AS break. Unless he gets shelled every start for a month, which I doubt, I think he is in the rotation until they bring Chi Chi up post AS break. I don't really want to see Tep and unless they keep Ohlendorf stretched out when he gets back, I don't think anyone else has earned a shot yet.

I would love to get a healthy Ohlendorf back as I liked what little I saw at ST.

I see Detwiler getting at least 10 starts, bc that means Chi Chi is also getting about 10 starts in AAA

But I actually liked Detwiler, he was mostly caught in a numbers game in Washington

Do you really need more than about 125 innings out of your 4th-5th starters, if they stay healthy for the most part all year? I think both Nmart and Det could handle that pretty easily, both are young guys. 25 starts each maybe, unless 1 or the other or both, totally shit the bed and then in that case we are in a bind.

I agree. I've always thought Detwiler had a chance to be a really nice starter for us.

Exactly. That's the bare minimum I expect out of those two. Probably closer to 150 innings each.

I sure hope we get at least that much out of both of them.

I sure liked the hustle I saw out of Prince last night, dude was sprinting all over the place for foul pop ups and getting down the line. Never stopped on his way to second on the ball Gentry muffed in RF

He looks like he wants to show people he can still play the game.

I know Detwiler has been in the BP for the last two years, and as jta pointed out, he was caught in a numbers game. But that said, over the past 2 years he averaged 68 innings per (134 total). To expect for him to be able to double his innings in one season, just seems like we're asking/expecting a lot.

As for Martinez, I was probably selling him short. Honestly had forgotten how much time he spent up last year (140 innings).

What's a "reasonable" expectation for any pitcher to add from one season to the next in your opinion?

Very good observation.

I'm wondering if Prince didn't realize how fleeting his baseball life could be during his surgery/rehab last year, and he wants to give it 100% for here on in. But like you, I really like what I'm seeing with him.

In the year that Ogando was a successful starter for us he did that without having ever pitched more than 41 innings in professional ball. I believe he gave us over 160 innings that year and only had to miss one start down the stretch. That made his season even more amazing, but may have also led to his arm problems after that. In hindsight, he probably should have been eased into the starting role. Either that or maybe he should have been allowed to develop as a starter in the minors instead of coming up here as a reliever.
