Nats are not trying to be better today, and nothing coming back would have done that for Soto. The goal was to add 5 top level prospects that the team still has years of control for. A few years ago Gore was a top 10 prospect, and had a down year over covid stuff.

it was terrible when it was first signed. he was coming off a really good 2017 season, but it was also on a .351 BABIP. he's never really drawn a lot of walks and had a career .342 OBP at the time, and he's never had an ISO higher than .179 (unless you count the 38 games in 2020). he hit too many ground balls and he's never really fixed that. he was a glorified Casey Kotchman.

I hate the deal for Marsh if they gave up O'Hoppe. Maybe the Robertson deal will work out-It can't go any worse than last time they had him.

Twins acquired RHP Tyler Mahle from the Reds for infielders Spencer Steer and Christian Encarnacion-Strand and LHP Steve Hajjar.​

The Twins give up three prospects for some much-needed rotation help this year and next. Mahle had some velocity issues at the beginning of the year, but he's picked it up some there and he's been excellent the last two months, posting a 2.83 ERA in his last nine starts. Getting out Great American Ballpark will be big for him; in his career, he has an ERA a run and a quarter lower in road games (3.74 to 5.02). He was already of some use in mixed leagues, but this should give him a nice boost over the rest of the season.
