Jeff Passan of ESPN reports that the Rays are acquiring Christian Bethancourt from the Athletics for outfielder Cal Stevenson and right-hander Christian Fernandez.

Trade season is starting to heat up, sort of. Bethancourt offers some defensive versatility as a catcher, first baseman and corner outfield depth option for the . The 30-year-old veteran has hit .249/.298/.385 with four homers and four steals in 182 plate appearances this season in the majors. He's a solid low-cost depth addition for Tampa Bay's bench.

Oakland waited a month too long to trade Montas. Not looking good for him.

Tigers acquired RHP Cody Sedlock from the Orioles for cash.

Sedlock was jettisoned from the Orioles' 40-man roster last month and will head to Detroit in a small trade to serve as extra relief depth. The 26-year-old former first-round pick made made his big-league debut earlier this season and has posted an underwhelming 5.47 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 62/28 K/BB ratio across 54 1/3 innings (10 appearances, one start) this season at the Triple-A level.

Royals acquired OF Drew Waters, RHP Andrew Hoffmann and INF CJ Alexander from the Braves for a competitive balance selection (35th overall) in the 2022 MLB Draft.

The deal is now official. The meteoric rise of fellow outfielder prospect Michael Harris II was likely the deciding factor in the Braves' decision to jettison Waters, who was blocked from a clear path to regular playing time in Atlanta in the future. The 23-year-old top prospect will receive a change of scenery after hitting just .253/.311/.411 with six homers and five steals in 52 games this season between High-A Rome and Triple-A Gwinnett. He's been dealt for the 32nd selection in the upcoming 2022 MLB Draft, which carries a slot value of $2.2 million.

Waters has looked completely overmatched at AAA. Even at the lower levels his K/BB rates did not look good.

Still worth taking a flier on though

hmm... What does he have left in the tank?
Nothing. Mets are paying his salary. No risk and likely no reward move, but if he has a big moment in this series against the Mets, it’ll definitely be worth it.

he's hit .333/.375/.479 in AAA, but it's only 104 PA and it's the PCL. .149/.182/.189 in 77 MLB PA

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say he sucks.

Now if he were to sign with the Cards or Yankees, I could see him hitting .300/.340/.600.

Him, Pache and Acuna were gonna be the future of the Braves OF. Pache and Waters struggled, Harris rose through the ranks out of nowhere and here we are. Hoffman is a better prospect at this point IMO, and he projects out to a back end of the rotation guy. The other prospect is nearly 26 and still in AA.

Essentially gives the Braves another first round pick, with 4 in the first two rounds of a pretty deep draft class. But the blue checks are saying the 2.2 million added to the bonus pool could be a bigger deal than the pick itself

Braves has a good track record of getting short term success with reclamation projects, but I expect nothing from Cano. Honestly wouldn’t be surprised if he gets DFA’d when Jansen comes back from the IL this week

Why not the Phillies? Could you imagine an outfield with Soto and Harper?
I would settle for just an outfield with Harper right now. But of course I'd love to see Soto on the Phillies. He's probably one of the top 5 hitters in baseball at age 23, what's not to like? It's not realistic though. The Phils really need a centerfielder. Plus they aren't really loaded with prospects to offer Washington. But I guess if we're living in a fantasy world I guess what they would do is trade Schwarber for some prospects and package them with something else to get Soto, then agree to pay him half a billion dollars or something.
