Hosmer wouldn't waive his NTC, so they re-worked it apparently
Appears they had a plan B. Just don't know what it is yet. No way they would've announced it if they didn't.

Hosmer is well within his rights to decline a trade at this point. Perhaps they could trade him to the Twins for a box of batting practice balls?

LOL

I wouldn't want to leave San Diego for DC either
Yeah I don't blame him, but with Bell on the way as well Hosmer's days are numbered. Unless he suddenly gets motivated and starts performing.

Wouldn't be surprised to see the Padres make another move today.

Shi Davidi of Sportsnet reports that the Blue Jays are acquiring relievers Zach Pop and Anthony Bass from the Marlins.

Davidi adds that the Marlins will be receiving infield prospect Jordan Groshans, who was selected 12th overall in the 2018 MLB Draft, along with additional players. Pop has compiled a strong 3.60 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 14/2 K/BB ratio across 20 innings (18 appearances) this season for Miami.

which means he's going to hit .230/.330/.580. Dodgers seem to do well with reclamation projects

if he goes to STL, it would be .250/.360/.700

If he went to the Giants (this year), it would be .193 / .310 / .430

Red Sox, Padres Agree To Eric Hosmer Trade

By Steve Adams | August 2, 2022 at 1:29pm CDT

In a rapid turn of events, the Padres have agreed to a trade sending first baseman Eric Hosmer to the Red Sox, reports Jeff Sanders of the San Diego Union-Tribune (Twitter link). Hosmer previously exercised his partial no-trade clause to veto a deal to the Nationals, temporarily throwing a wrench into the Juan Soto negotiations. The Padres/Nats Soto blockbuster was completed anyhow, sans Hosmer, and Hosmer is now heading to Boston, according to Sanders and colleague Kevin Acee, who hear the deal is almost complete (Twitter link).
The Red Sox aren’t on Hosmer’s no-trade list, tweets Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, so that won’t stand in the way. The Padres are set to pay the majority of the money owed to Hosmer as part of the deal — roughly $46MM through the end of the 2025 season. That won’t help San Diego’s quest to dip below the luxury-tax line, though perhaps with Soto and former Brewers closer Josh Hader now on the squad, ownership has simply decided to pay the tax for a second consecutive season.
It’s a fairly stunning sequence of events, but the Red Sox will take advantage of San Diego’s willingness to pay the freight on Hosmer’s underwater contract and take a low-cost look at a former All-Star who’ll help solidify a position of need in the lineup. Boston has been pairing Franchy Cordero and Bobby Dalbec at first base for much of the season, often to disastrous results, and Hosmer should shore up some of the miscues that have become common in the Boston infield.

I don't agree. It falls right within the 4-5 top prospects they mentioned. Gore seems to be getting his stuff back, and the prospects they sent have all shown significant potential.

None of that makes them better today. Gore isnt anything close to a top 50 pitcher They should have made them include musgrove or darvish

The Nats are clearly focusing on tomorrow, not today. They wanted prospects.
