Shaq was indeed pathetic in game 7 against Portland. He had 1 fg going into the 4th qtr...Lucky Kobe came through that game and was leading scorer, otherwise Shaq doesn't win that first title. Or any of the 3 titles, (without Kobe that is).

People don't realize shaq had been swept out of the playoffs 5 out of 6 years before Kobe became a superstar and the lakers went on to win 3 straight

Great Points! how fast they seem to forget...

If you put Lebron on the 2000-2003 Lakers they would win all 3 years.

If you put Tracy McGrady on the 2000-2003 Lakers they probably win at least 2 titles if not 3 titles.

But.....

If you put Kobe on the 2007 Cavaliers, there is no way they get the Finals.

I agree. People need to cut Lebron a break too. MJ didnt win his first tile til he was 27. Lebron has been to the Finals 3 times at 28. Its an unfair comparison at this point in the careers. Although I am one of about 9 people in the free world that doesnt consider MJ the greatest NBA player of all time ( hes a top 5 guy IMO but not number 1) but thats largely because when I think of "best player of all time" I think of the guy Id take in his prime if I was starting a team from scratch, a guy that would make my team better by not only his own game but the ability to make others around him better too.

So your evidence is one bad game by Shaq? If thats actually true. Youre quoting Sman so be careful agreeing.

No his point was that Shaq was a miserable ass playoff failure until Kobe came along, being swept 5 out of 6 years prior to teaming with Kobe.

Just like I thought. Shaq had 9 FGA's in that game and only scored 18 because they were letting Kobe shoot. So that means Shaq had 16 in the 4th quarter. Of course thats assuming what Sman said was true.

I think Phil Jackson had just a little more to do with that than Kobe.

The reason people talk about Jordan and Lebron, not Kobe is because Lebron is still young enough to get there. Kobe isn't. He has pretty much said he is retiring after next season.

Please excuse Montsho. He is in love with Lebron's nuts and constantly talks of his dreams of having lebron's baby...He's so infatuated he says incredibly retarded stuff, like Kobe, a first team all nba player, and first team all nba defender is easily replaceable...

I guess that's because there's many, many, first team all nba guards out there, who all happen to be first team all nba defense....LOL..

That's not true.

He's using 1999 as Shaq being swept by the Spurs but Kobe was indeed a starter that year for LA.

Just one of "many" fallacies that Sman uses in his repertoire to tear down Shaq while trying to prop up Kobe.

I have a question...i dont really follow the NBA until the playoffs but i here people comparing Lebron and Jordan all the time...now in my eyes Jordan, no question about it, is the greatest of all time (I.M.O) but why compare them when its Kobe is up there with jordan as one of the greats???

Can someone answer that for me???

Easy answer. Kobe has not even been the best player on his own team for 3 of his 5 championships.

Who do you think convinced Mike to share the ball and trust his teammates more?

Mike leading the league in FGA's year after year didn't get the Bulls anywhere. Sure made his stats look great though, huh?

MJ led the league in FGA AFTER Phil took over too. He won titles because he got other great players to play with just like every single other superstar that has ever won a title. My point is that nobody wins a title on their own, most cant even make a finals without another great player. Saying one guy was "better" is just guess work. The reality is that MJ doesnt have the most titles ( Russell does), MJ doesnt have the most points ( Kareem does), MJ doesnt have the most steals ( Stockton does), MJ doesnt have the most rebounds ( Wilt does), etc etc etc. We idolize MJ because he is from most of our genrations AND his entire career conincided with the huge boom in NBA popularity ( thank you Magic and Larry). MJ is GREAT but he wasnt EVER going to win a title by himself so saying Kobe didnt win one without Shaq originally is fucking stupid.

Maybe you have a point. Better is a bad word. More valuable. MJ was the most valuable to the Bulls just like Shaq was for the Lakers.
