You are that much quicker to the draw than I am.
I'm ok with this. No need to spend $8+M on a closer when we could have a couple of potentials already on the staff.
Let's break this down a little ...
Q: Who will be really happy if Darvish signs with TEX? A: Ham Fighters
Q: Who else can Darvish sign with for 2012 (his 26yo season)? A: Nobody
Q: If he doesn't sign and HF reposts him for 2013 who has a higher budget in 2013 and a higher need than they did in 2012 to match the bid the HF got from TEX? A: Nobody ... well hardly anybody. And he will be 27yo.
Q: Who really wants Darvish to sign with TEX more than anyone? A: Ham Fighters (know that's basically the same question twice but HF do not want to lose $51.7mil)
So I think TEX has the leverage on Darvish and will sign him to a program that includes some nice bundled performance incentives. HF will help him pack.
He is a FA if he doesn't sign. He can sign with whom ever he wants no posting fee next year
did anyone read Evan Grant's article where he suggested how to keep Hamilton and also sign Prince?
he called for this:
As part of the column, Grant looked at a possible way the Rangers could end up bringing in Fielder while still holding onto Josh Hamilton as well. Here's a highlight of his proposal.
Josh Hamilton
Hamilton is signed for $13.75 million in 2012 and is eligible for free agency after the season.
Highlights of proposal:
* Five guaranteed seasons
* Signing bonus of $1.25 million
* Salaries of $16 million (2013), $16.5 million (2014), $17 million (2015), $18 million (2016), $19 million (2017).
* Vesting option for $20 million 2018, which locks in at 550 plate appearances in 2017.
* If option not picked up, there will be a $1.5 million exit payment.
* Incentive bonuses of $250,000 for each year with 500 plate appear
ances, $500,000 or 600 plate appearances, $250,000 for every Silver Slugger Award, $100,000 for each Gold Glove.
* If player violates MLB substance abuse policy, club has ability to void remainder of contract.
* The deal would guarantee Hamilton $89.25 million over five years, an average of $17.85 million. If Hamilton makes 600 plate appearances each year, the contract value would go to at least $111.5 million for six years, an average of $18.6 million.
Prince Fielder
Highlights of proposal:
* Six guaranteed seasons
* No signing bonus
* Salaries of $12.5 million (2012), $15 million (2013), $18 million (2014), $21 million (2015), $22.5 million (2016) and $25 million (2017).
* Player has escape clause after 2015; club has escape clause after 2016. If player exercises escape clause, he will receive a $2.5 million exit payment; if club exercises escape clause, player will receive a $5 million termination payment.
* Vesting options for $25 million for each 2018 and 2019, based on 550 plate appearances in the preceding season. If option does not trigger in either year, player receives a $5 million termination payment.
* Incentive bonuses: $500,000 for each season of 550 plate appearances.
* The contract -- if taken to full guaranteed length of six years -- would be worth a minimum of $119 million or $19.8 million per year. If taken to full eight years, would be worth $169 million or $21.125 million per year before any incentives are included. If Fielder exercises escape clause, deal would be worth a minimum of $69 million over four years. If Rangers exercise escape clause, deal would be worth a minimum of $94 million over five years.
Hamilton would need some serious playing time incentives for me to be comfortable with anything more than 2-3 years or some serious playing time vesting options
Its not the substance abuse relapse that bothers most people the most its the frequency of injury
If Hamilton plays 150 games, no problem paying him 18 million per, but odds are that wont happen
Definitely. I'm not opposed to giving Hamilton a 5 year deal, but it needs to include multiple buyout options and health incentives.
he missed 37 games because of a bad call by the 3rd base coach which resulted in Hamilton breaking his arm. i put all the blame on the coach
So its the 3rd base coaches fault that he broke his arm???? you are right out ridiculous sometimes, its the coaches fault that he was out, not that he broke his arm
okay i was wrong it was all his fault for having brittle bones and being dumb enough to listen to the coach
Had nothing to do with it being anyone's fault. Some speculate that Josh's drug and alcohol abuse have lent a little to his proneness to injury, but some people are just more injury prone, and Josh's frame and musculoskeletal structures have to support a large strong frame that performs at high levels. Quit trying to find someone to blame and look at this objectively.
Go back and watch that play. There's nothing significantly traumatic to break any bones. There was no collision with the catcher. How many times do people slide home head first and not get injured? It's not Anderson's fault he got hurt. It's his fault he was out.
i agree with you but you have to look at Josh's playing mentality. he goes full bore in the field, at the plate and running the bases which leads to him suffering injuries. moving him to left may reduce injuries in the field but how do you get him to slow down at the plate and on the bases? one way might be to move him down in the order but we would have to bring in someone like Prince to hit 3rd.
