I kept wondering why the Rangers wouldn't get any upfront money on the TV deal. It would make sense not just for the Rangers but for FOX. You certainly think a team with additions like Fielder and Darvish would draw more ratings.

Still, I think Fielder is a Ranger only if he accepts a 5 year deal.

i agree although they might add an option 6th year where either the team or Fielder could opt out of the deal.

With some of that tv money coming in up front that would be fine. 5yr 100 million dollar deal with a 6th year option would be good.

Maybe so, but the list of teams who need a 1st baseman and are willing to spend 25 million a year seems to be limited?

Be serious he is not going to settle for less than Pujois

He may not have a choice. Who's left that might need a first baseman for that kind of money? Texas, Toronto, Chicago, maybe Seattle.....?

5 years at 125 million is less than what Puljos signed for. But like Romeo says, it may be a matter of what's offered not what he will take.

LMAO ... only one team stupid enough to pay that much for a dang first baseman.

Yup and both pujols and CJs contracts are backloaded big time. They spent a ton of money long term to be very competitive in the short term. Not even to own the west, but just be able to compete with Texas. You think their loaded with a bunch of expensive and aging players now? Wait about 4 years lol. Texas still owns LA and will continue to. Those moves they made reek of desperation.

Don't be surprised if he doesn't get 25m a year. His defense doesn't warrant that kind of money. Don't be surprised if its more like 20m a year.

I don't put much stock in adverbs value to a sentence. So ... I agree that the two big dollar acquisitions have made LAA more competitive ... not very competitive.

However, signing Iannetta as their primary catcher may make more overall impact on the outcome than either of the big dollar deals that are going to tie their hands for a long time.

I did say competitive. Not dominant to be fair.

i think that if a team comes forward with a 5 year deal worth 21-25M a year Fielder will take it. nobody is going to go more than 6 years

The Brewers, Cubs, Nationals, Indians, Mariners, Orioles, Rangers, Rays, and Pirates are all considering non-Fielder upgrades at first base. Carlos Pena, Casey Kotchman, and Derrek Lee remain unsigned, among others.

Both Kyle Lohse and Jake Westbrook remain available, and the Rangers may be willing to trade Matt Harrison for a more established starter.

Could be but I wouldn't be surprised if he gets only five year deal (through his 32yo season).

Cecil Fielder's output dropped off after his 32yo season and his 34yo season was his last.

Pedigry as it is ... teams might give him an option year past five ... but I wouldn't be surprised if nobody gives him a hard offer over five either.
