Bottom line is that Darvish was always who they wanted, and he has a far higher upside than CJ. The only thing that went wrong was CJ not going to the NL and even worse going to Anaheim. The Rangers just upgraded their rotation over last year though, and then some.

Can you really count them out on Fielder either? I don't think they will go 8 years for him, but they might not have to. 5 years might get him in Arlington.

I doubt they make a big move for fielder. Provided they sign Darvish they probably just made themselves the best team in the AL. That doesn't sound like a team looking to make another 100 million dollar move. Especially at the risk of losing some core players.

Here's how the rotation looks to me

Holland
Lewis
Darvish
Harrison
Ogando/Feliz/Feldman

If Feliz needs more work start him in AAA. If ogando develops a killer secondary pitch he might make it a good fight. Feldman could too If Feliz is ready we have an overflowing bullpen of:

Nathan
Adams
Ogando
Lowe
Uehara
Yoshi
Scooter

And unless uehara gets it back we have no lefty specialist. Someone's not going to fit.

Our rotation could be tops in the ML next year. I can't wait for the nastiness to ensue.

Also can we give a big middle finger to Wilson after his comments about the rangers not being willing or able to spend money. No asshole, they just didn't want to spend the money on you.

This was their plan all along. Man did they ever play this close to the vest. Texas has got to have the best FO in baseball.

I have to believe Darvish will be the ace Texas is looking for at this point.

He's gonna have to fight Dutch for that one :pop2:

I agree. I think holland is flat out nasty this year. Between him and Darvish with Colby adding some stability for Feliz this entire pitching staff looks nasty.

Feliz has ace potential too. Ogando is no joke either. It's gonna be fun.

I agree with the premise, but I'm not sure if a 5 years deal for Fielder means that. They might be okay with letting Andrus walk if Profar is ready to role, which means that's one less guy you have to worry about signing. I also imagine someone is going to give them a bit of a hometown discount if it means staying with the best team in the AL, if not all of baseball.

I won't be upset if they don't get in on the Fielder negotiations in the end, but I won't be surprised if they do.

My guess is Hamilton and Napoli give Texas a hometown discount. Hamilton has made it clear he wants to stay in Texas and Napoli has fallen in love with this club after leaving that asshole Sciosia. Kinsler may be another guy as well.

They're also trying to lock holland up long term which he seems open to.

I haven't looked at the numbers, but when it's all said and done I bet they end up in the $170-190 million payroll range in a few years. The market can support that, and they also get to tap into Japan now in a BIG way. I'd like to see some sort of idea of how much revenue they could get from marketing and merchandise in Japan.

The other big news is Cespedes could gain residency this week. If we sign him then I would be fucking ecstatic.

Between Darvish, Uehara, and Yoshi they just about have the Japanese market cornered.

170-190 million seems a little scary to me, but I believe in the FO and frankly I bet they get real creative to make everything work.

I have a feeling he'll command some money though and I'm not sure CF is where we need to spend big money.

If we can get him for something like 4/40 then I say do it. He could be the future of our OF.
