It's a lot but the guy is a solid workhorse that is good for over 200 innings every year and about 15 wins even on poor teams. He definitely not in Cliff Lee territory as a pitcher but his contract is basically 1/3 of that. Is there really that much of a drop off between Lee and Buehrle?

There really is a huge difference between Buehrle and lee. Did you really just make that statement?

3 choices for the Rangers now:

1) Offer CJ what it takes for him to stay,

2) let him walk and bring in Fielder and put a trade package together for a starter

3) Sign Fielder and go with the starters we have

They don't have to do any of those things. The club will be very solid without any of those moves.

There is a difference. One got 150 million the other got 58 million. Buehrle is a #2/#3. Lee is a legit #1 but is slotted at #2 where Buehrle will be with the Marlins unless they sign Wilson to be the #2. But you are telling me that Buehrle is only worth 1/3 of what Lee is worth?

Both are going to win the same # of games next season. Buehrle averages 15 wins for his career while Lee averages 16. Buehrle has a career ERA of 3.83 while Lee has a career ERA of 3.65. Buehrle has played his entire career in the American League. Those numbers don't scream to me that one player is worth a hundred mil more than another player. Hell their WHIP's are virtually identical as well.

do you really believe that the Rangers won't do anything?

i know that some think that Feliz is going to go out there and immediately replace CJ's production but come on, this team's starting rotation is going to take a step backwards without CJ

I am not sure about that at all. Could be that next season any one of the other 6 rotation candidates outperform CJ. Every single one of them are quite capable including Feldman.

my thinking too. i see Moreland being part of a package deal if we sign Fielder.

I could easily see that. Moreland did a nice job in rf last year. Hell they could do that and put Murphy in a package.

I think the Texas management is smart enough to know when to not spend money just for the sake of doing something.

and i think they're smart enough to pull off something like they did last season with Beltre without doing something for the sake of doing something. every move they have made so far has been to accomplish things that advance the team's progress and i think they are in the process of pulling something major.

Maybe. I hope you're right. And I also trust that if they choose to do nothing right now then I trust their judgement as well.

yes they could or they could take a step back just as easily. Holland could easily win 16-18 games or he could win only 10-12. Ogando could face the "sophomore jinx" and struggle to win 10 games or he could win 14-15. Harrison is an enigma, he could win anywhere from 7-14 and Lewis could give up 40+ homers and throw .500 ball. and Feliz is a total mystery, no one knows what he is going to do.

we can hope that we get the same or better from Holland, Lewis, Ogando & Harrison

as do i. but i can't accept that they are as comfortable with the starting pitching staff as they are saying.

+1.

I appreciate ginger's optimism but the truth is there is a lot up in the air with Texas rotation. I don't think anyone would deny the talent, but theres a lot more to success than talent.

Maybe they found out Darvish was being posted.
