lol, to keep it simple..there are going to be situations where a power back is needed, situations where a runner with both running, pass catching, and pass protecting abilities is needed, and situations where a "scat back" (another term for those smaller, more elusive RBs) is needed.

The opponent and game plan will dictate what type of RB is needed more often.

btw, it's not just the saints that employ a multiple RB rotation. It's pretty much the way the league is trending.

the saints use a ton of screen passes to setup the home runs. sproles wouldn't work anywhere near as well in any other offense in the nfl. he'd be used like he was in san diego as a typical 3rd down back.

What about Philly?

i don't think sproles would function as well with the eagles. graham opens things up for sproles.

I think they have enough weapons on the outside that he could find room. But you did make me think of another team, I think he'd do well on the Pats also.

Hope not, he's our best(maybe nfl best) blitz pickup guy we have.

Gore will be 29 and has a lot of wear and tear on his body, I don't think he's done but he will be getting close in a year or two.

We are going through the motions of becoming a dynasty gentlemen. We have forgotten what that means. We need to gear up for the future while winning today.

I don't think so! Kendall Hunter is our best blitz pickup back, he showed that in his limited time last season.

Gore gets lazy from time to time.

You must have just became a 49ers fan for you to make a dumb comment like that

not so fast on 'Dynasty', you can't have a dynasty without a dynasty level QB.

not saying we need a very elite QB (Brady, Peyton, or whomever H-O-F types), but dynasty means high level OVER TIME. Alex Smith might do it this year, but can he do it over time?

we have no idea if Kap or Johnson can do it over time?

but this is what a 13-3 season will do, move expectations SKY HIGH.

As a potential playoff opponent, I would have rather seen you guys focus on defense. The Packers have proven that they can score on good defense, but they had to go all in on their OWN defense in this draft. I don't really want to see a more versatile SF offense in the playoffs. I really don't.

Thanks, one of the best complements you can get is worry from an opponent. GL next year.

it's one thing to do well it's another to basically be the primary back. the saints can get away with it because of the other weapons on offense. a more normal back like thomas is the change of pace back for that offense.

There was nothing dumb about my comment. I've probably been a Niner fan longer than you've been alive.

Hunter was a beast on pick ups, I first noticed in the preseason

San Francisco 49ers – Niner Insider Blog – SFGate.com Giants-49ers impressions

Blitz pickup tops TD for 49ers rookie Kendall Hunter

Step your sports knowledge game up, Buddy. Don't wait for the "experts" to point the obvious things out, then repeat them. See your own analysis, then speak on it.

I wish I could find some highlights on Hunter's form on those pick ups, they were beautiful.
