at what point do lakers move on and say we have to get whats left of free agency after LeBron and Carmelo? with the parsons deal working itself out by weekend some of these 2nd tier players may get tired of waiting around and take sure deals with teams that have passed on LeBron and Carmelo..like dallas.

Patience. It'll all be over in the next day or so. What free agents that would actually make a difference are everyone so concerned about missing out on? Only one so far that I'd like to have that has signed is Parsons, and he's a long shot because Houston is likely going to match that offer.

The next move will be Gasol and I expect that to occur within the week.

After Carmelo signs with the Knicks and James heads back to Miami, the Lakers will get busy hiring their coach and the rest of a roster that will be playing with hopes for the 2015-2016 season.

A few of their own might be a good start. Pau, Swaggy, Bazemore, X, Hill. Kudos that those guys appear to be willing to be patient, but I wonder how much longer they'll wait.

I think everyone of those guys you listed TJF12 will re-sign except Gasol. But if Mitch waits too long, the list will shrink quickly especially in light of what they see other FAs getting the gobs of money some are getting. I think Gasol is headed to New York to play for Phil and with Anthony. Money will be the main draw.

Yeah, that's my concern. I don't want them to wait so long that we lose those guys. Kaman was no big deal, he wasn't coming back anyway. I would have liked to see Meeks back, but not at that price.

Farmar jumping on the Clippers offer so quickly is what has me starting to get a little concerned. Why jump on that offer so quickly to go be a backup? There are teams he could start for, including the Lakers.

As for Gasol, I don't know. He and Kobe are tight and if he went to NY, he'd be walking into essentially the same situation as in L.A. minus the nice weather. The only difference is that he'd be playing in the East, so he might get a 1st round exit rather than miss the playoffs.

I know he likes Phil and D-Fish, but that might not be reason enough to go to the east coast version of what the Lakers are going to go through.

None of them have signed though and LA has been in contact with all of them, especially Pau. I was talking about FAs that have signed. People act like everyone is going off the market while LA waits for Melo which is just not true at all. Outside of Parsons and Lowry (who I forget to mention earlier) its just been a handful of role players that have signed, none of which would have any significant impact for the Lakers. That's why I asked who the heck everyone is so concerned about missing out on? The way people act you'd think an entire rosters worth of all stars passed the Lakers by while they pitched Carmelo Anthony

I like Kupcake and Jeannie Buss, I think the Lakers own worst enemy is Jim "Tommy Boy" Buss. Lacks his fathers' charisma, dresses like a 13 year old boy and is extremely inarticulate. Poster child for a LA kid with a sense of entitlement. Meanwhile, Jeanie Buss is articulate, can speak on behalf of the franchise and does not carry herself like a spoiled 13 year old.

Check out this interview with Jim Buss years ago.... he has no idea what he is talking about and speaks in generalities. Clearly he was given a job within the organization because it's a family run team, but he brings nothing to the table other than vague generalities that any fan could articulate if they read the LA Times sport section one a week. "Fits the system, fits the system blah blah blah." Clearly regurgitating points he over hears.

Precisely lasportsphan. Great characterization and link!

Just to add.... what made Dr. Jerry Buss great was he knew his limitations. Great, intelligent owners know their limitations and let the necessary professionals handle the aspects the business beyond their expertise or simply put, beyond the effort they are willing to put in. Jerry Jones is an example of the alternative. He remains involved, continued to get more involved and the very people he hires cannot do their jobs effectively.

Back to point, Jerry Buss liked poker, the playboy mansion, the lifestyle, the Staples center suite, his team and stepped in when the owner/team spokesman needed to step in. Remember when Shaq was berating the great Dr. Jerry Buss in Hawaii because he "wanted his money" and "to get paid." Well, Shaq got shipped off, won one more ring all the while the Lakers went to three more finals and won two more rings. Buss stepped in when he had to in the best interests of the team and he made sure we stayed competitive within Kobe's prime. It was not often, but when Jerry spoke, you knew he had won thing in mind: making the Lakers a winner.

I think Jeanie has her fathers's attributes in knowing her limitations and the tragedy is, Jim Buss will never realize that he is not his father and probably has no idea that the less of him involved is all the better for the future of the team.

Well, Steve Blake just signed 2 year $4.2 mill deal with the Blazers so he wont be a point guard for the Lakers.

That clears that up Hangman. I didn't think Blake was going to wait around for the Lakers to wait around for Anthony who is trying to play with James somewhere or Anthony will re-sign with New York.

isiah Thomas meeting with suns today. as suspected these free agents are tired of waiting around. slowly the steve blakes, greivis Vasquez etc are starting to come off the market. at this rate if lakers don't get Carmelo...they might be a top 5 lottery pick next season

Yea especially losing Meeks and Farmar and probably Gasol. Oh well. They picked their strategy and they are going to have to live with or we will indeed be giving our number one to Phoenix next year.
