You so vastly oversimplify it is unreal.

Against ball screens they can hedge, switch, Ice, monster, go under, etc. and there are variants of each of those actions that require all 5 players to be in the same page. That is just ball screens.

Similarly there are different ways to cover pin downs, staggers, etc.

And at the NBA level, good defenses have multiple coverages for each action depending on the strengths of the personnel they are facing.

And there is much more.

You acting like defense is simple shows your ass big time. That is what most NBA coaches spend the most time on by far, how to best guard the opponent’s actions with their coverages

defense is much more than that.. there a half court press , full court. 1-2-2, 1-3 -1 2-2-1 zone defenses that if used properly during a game can make one hellava difference .

I mean, if you're coaching 10 year olds, I guess those are all the defenses you need to know.

Not the Knicks, but I am watching the Warriors/Celtics and just saw the Dubs play 3 different ball screen coverages on 3 straight possessions.

They went under a screen for Teague, used a soft hedge on a side ball screen for Tatum, and went over with the big playing back against a middle ball screen for Tatum from about 8 feet behind the 3 point line.

I only watch the Knicks , the Knicks do not play anything but man to man.

their opponents play zone for a big part of the game cause they know thibs has no strategy other than the 3.

with their solid d , and if they shoot well their chances of winning are greater.

Yes, teams are playing more zone than ever.

Still, man is the base for every team. Cant be a good defensive team if you can’t play man.

Celtics play mostly man and mix in zone occasionally. That is how most teams use it. Which is exactly what I said.

Last couple possessions yes. Guard to guard screens are usually automatic switches.

I hate that mindset. One of the reasons Charlotte beat Miami last night is they kept screening Herro knowing the Heat would switch. IMO, late in the game switching shouldn't be done by the defense if it is going to give the offense a favorable matchup. Poor coaching all around the league if you ask me

Yeah, I think you are right that teams should explore alternative coverages to take away that option.

It is just that any other ball screen coverage requires all 5 player to be on the same page and it exposes the back end of the defense. So overall it probably is the best solution, but in late game sometimes you just need to get the ball out of the star’s hands and make somebody else beat you.

Oh. Bullshite, teams are shooting more , because the 3 in basketball is the HR in Baseball, more glamorous, puts people in seats to sell their $ 6 cotton candies, and $ 9 beers.
