If they do it will end up being a 3 year 75M deal. Then onto year 4 with no QB. I'd prefer Cousins not be in DC but as long as he's eating cap space I'm good with it.

Washington will have to allow any team they trade with the right to negotiate with Cousins. If Cousins is tagged again in 18 it will be at 34.47M.

if the tag runs its course this year. Wouldnt he no longer be under contract? (without tagging him again, which I cant see happening) So without tagging him how can they trade him after this season? Wouldnt they just have to let him walk? Or am I misunderstanding how the tag works?

They can tag him againbin 18, if they don't he's a FA and they get nothing more than a comp pick. They cannot trade him unless he's tagged. No team is going to trade for a tagged player, especially a player on his third tag, thus the reason the skins will have to allow other teams negotiating rights.
Cousins and his agent played the franchise tag like a drum vs. the Skins.
I can see other agents using this same approach if their client is tagged.

2018 Franchise Tag will be 35M, if the Skins dont get him to sign a long-term deal soon he wont be in DC next year.

The correct answer is he is franchised. That lasts for the entire year. Then next year he is a UFA and as long as he is not franchised again, he can walk.
Wash screwed up by not signing him long term last year.

I'm surprised 7 people voted Franchised. I hope those 7 are thinking this year and not next. If this is the case, newsflash he's already franchised this year. Next years tag at 35M will be too rich for any team.
