I've gotta say, this is one of my favo(u)rite days every year. Even if the Pens aren't doing some crazy shit like today, it's still really exciting to follow this madness! :yahoo:

If he plays for WBS, he will be making his line mates worse.
That's some funny shit right there! I just like this kid...did well in world juniors and for the solar bears last year, and, I feel, the Pens are desperate for a big winger somewhere on their roster

On Friday night I heard Dreger say Rutherford was trying to move into the 1st round. Then somebody on the telecast said what are they going to give up? They don't have much left in their prospect pool. The Pens added a goal scorer & gave up a 1st round pick. I'm looking forward to seeing if Kessel will backcheck for the Pens.

Only if MAF leaves some Krispy Kremes in the corner.

I hope last year was an aberration and Phil can pick his game up. I really do. He was actually very good against Boston in the playoffs a couple of years ago. For whatever reason, that guy didnt dress last year.

BS...admit it, what you're looking forward to is pointing and laughing when he doesn't! :mad2:

In all seriousness Kessel has played very well against the Islanders. He burned them last year in a game at the Coliseum.
Right now I'm curious as to what's going to happen with Okposo & Nelson. From what I've read on the Isles fansite they aren't sure about giving Kyle a long term extension. As for Nelson I want him signed. No offersheets please. I'm a bit concerned about Philly. He played for their coach at North Dakota.

More than the two linemates he left behind will I bet.

I still really like the kid...call me stupid but he's got skills. I believe he was also in the AHL

I don't know if you're stupid, but thinking that Tyler Biggs can take an NHL shift next year is incredibly stupid.

Pens need big bodies, and he can at least do that and was pretty successful on the world stage and in the playoffs for his teams

He's played 9 games in the OHL playoffs and 4 games in the AHL playoffs and has zero goals and one assist. He played 7 games in the World Junior Championship and once again didn't have a single goal, just another assist. 20 international and postseason games since he turned 18 and he's got 2 points.

Gotta say, pretty excited about this move. I think everyone thought the Leafs could get more, but JR played a better game of chicken. In the end, the Leafs were more desperate to move Kessel than the Pens were to acquire him. I'm sad to see Kapanen go, but to get Kessel at a decent contract for a number of years, I do that in a heartbeat.

That said, if the Leafs were that deadset to get rid of Phil, the return wasn't bad. But I feel they would have gotten more either at the last trade deadline.

Now I'd like to see JR move one or two of Scuderi/Sutter/Kunitz, and hopefully pick up a stay at home 2nd pairing D with some experience.

Pens need to keep Sutter. Scuds won't be moved because no one is stupid enough to take him. Kunitz should be moved though

Biggs represented the United States internationally, playing for Team USA in the 2010 World U-17 Hockey Challenge, scoring five goals and adding an assist in six games, helping the U.S. to a gold medal finish. That same season, he competed for Team USA in the 2010 IIHF World U18 Championships, finishing the tournament with no points in seven games. A year later, he played in the 2011 IIHF World U18 Championships and scored two goals and one assist in six games during the tournament,[4] including the overtime goal in the semifinal round against Canada

With teams like FLA and Arizona have taken on dead contracts I am shocked a team wouldn't take his. At least they get a warm body.

What the fuck does what he did when he was 16 and 17 matter now though? Hell I'm not even convinced that what he did at the "real" World Juniors (the U20 tournament) matters anymore, but his 18th birthday/draft year seemed like a natural place to draw a line so I included his 7 game 1 assist appearance there anyway.

Also I hope you don't take my cursing there as an expression of anger or ill will, I'm just a little fired up today/about this trade.

I've had a little more time to digest it and, meh. He has a lot of years that PIT are stuck with and he's almost past the "new prime" (ages 23-29). Assuming the Pens make the playoffs this season it's a decent enough haul.

What could have happened this season that would have made this type of package unattainable next offseason?

It feels like "We had to trade him now, because we decided we had to trade him now"

I don't disagree, but what if he got in the habit of not playing how Babcock wanted? You know Babs would have no problem nailing his ass to the bench or dropping him to the 4th line. If that happened, the return would probably be even worse.

Keep him or trade him, Leafs were gambling either way. Just gonna have to see how this plays out.
