Great player and sorry he passed away. I can't pretend that I think he was anything but an asshole though.

Kind of good story about him. In his early days on the Reds black players still could not go to the same restaurants as white players. Pete would often go to dinner with Frank Robinson and another black player (I cannot remember who it was) instead eating with the white players. Pretty cool I guess. Now the bad part, part of the reason he did that was because the rest of the team hated him and didn't want to eat with him anyway.
Frank seemed to kind of like him.

He's been in the public eye forever and mainly always been an asshole. Not just a rumor or two.

That's the story I heard, in that version he still doesn't come off poorly. There are probably plenty of players who even if the rest of their team didn't like him, would not have dined with black players during segregation.

But hey, if it bugs you I'll have a mod remove my posts from this thread.

The Black Sox? To Hell with them. First off, they were 100% guilty of every allegation thrown at them. Second, they were blackmailed into throwing game in 1920 and would have been every season. They were the tip of a crooked iceberg. Many, many games were not on the level between 1914 and 1920. There are questions about the 1914, 1917 and 1918 World Series. Since the Black Sox were banned, no real rumor of a fixed game has happened.

Rose and the Black sox have one thing in common. They confessed. Rose confessed to the gambling rumors he self-righteously denied. Five of the eight Sox admitted to it later
