Interesting discussion on both NFL and ESPN.

"Whoever these draft graders may be, they're idiots." Very quick commercial break.

Same guy....."Look. They don't like a player or a team and they immediately downgrade the pick." He's got the other three's attention. "We've highlighted Treyvon Henderson of Ohio State a number of times last night and the Patriots were given a C for selecting him? At one point he was the best player on the board." Then he finished it with a knife to the kidneys. "Patriots haven't been close to a Super Bowl for six or seven years and there's still an undercurrent of dislike. Belichick and Brady are gone, get over yourselves." (Paraphrased)

Guy at the end of the table. "You might be just a little off. Brady is Mark Davis's right hand man in Las Vegas. He's certainly not gone."

Screw the losers. Henderson is an A. He can take it to the house at any moment.
Most experts had him as the #2 back behind Jeanty - until the Pats took him!
Opposing D's better pay attention!

Interesting … NFL.com grades Patriots Day 2 as A+ and Day 1 as B-

B- for Will Campbell pick, citing short arms, again.

I like the picks so far, it seems Pats did their homework and are following a solid pre-defined strategy.

Craig Woodson seems mainly a scheme player. He should be a good dime safety but his versatility and football IQ should make a good chess-piece for a defensive coordinator.
His speed and sure tackling will make him valuable as a special teamer.
Somewhat a puzzle piece for me but not without merit. I'm going to give a C+ grade for this.
He should be useful but arguably, there were better players available.

106. New England Patriots: Craig Woodson, S, Cal

  • Grade: B-
New England finally addresses defense at the top of Round 4. Woodson has good size and ball production from college but lacks any dominant traits. Still, the Patriots secondary needs help, even if this is a bit of a reach considering the options on the board.

Yep, the first head scratcher of the off season. Don't hate it but like you said there were/are better players available and bigger needs. Vrabel obviously saw something he likes. PFF had him graded around 186 if IRCC.

Joshua Farmer DT
Rated as a top 100 player by some.
He is very quick and explosive.
He is also very green. He can add more weight and as a rotational player, should be able to really put a hurt on a tired guard. I don’t see him as a 3 down player but he can be a big bang when we need it. He needs coaching. I’d give him a C but in round 5, I’ll give him a B- for the impact he’ll have in rotation.

Bradyn Swinson edge
Smallish edge with day 2 grade
Needs coaching but has skills to play
Another explosive player.
Another chess-piece in a very kinetic defence

I think this is the first time that the Patriots have ever picked Mr. Irrelevant Pick #257

I just read they picked Mr. Irrelevant in 2005.

Great draft, a couple head scratches but I think that's expected. Minus adding a TE they pretty much addressed all the holes. TE wasn't a hole but will need addressing next season.

Taking a LS and K that early might be considered a reach. They got the #1 K in this draft so I'm good with it. Hopefully he becomes a staple. We know how important having a solid kicker can be. How lucky were we to have Gotskiwsi and Vianteri for so long?

Why the need for a LS? Is Vrabel just cleaning house of all the former players? Obviously they see this kid as a long term fit?

Camp is going to be exciting. Some players are going to have to fight for their jobs. Especially in the WR room.

NE took an UDFA WR. Lots of WR signed to teams as UDFAs. Good luck to them all.

My final grade A.

LFG.

Read deeper on those head scratchers and you'll probably like those picks too......
We got an all-weather kicker and while there were other good kickers, Borregales can kick in Foxboro and is clutch.
This draft was well thought out. They went in with a plan.
