Just for fun: if you could see any player from past eras play in today's NBA, who would you want to see?

There are couple names that are obvious:

Bird
Hakeem
Oscar
Wilt
McHale
Pistol Pete

One name that wasn't mentioned is Jerry West. I think he would be a great combo guard that can shoot lights out and just about do everything you want from a guard.

John Stockton or Karl Malone. Why? Strict bias and same number of championships either way most likely (absent some other players). Same reason I would choose Alex Smith though I know he’s not a Hall of Famer.

But objectively, probably Miller because of the game change or Shaq because of needing a big guy who tries to play most games.

You just want to see them in their super short shorts.

Shaq played with significantly more weight actually, Wilt wasn't as big (which is one reason he was more athletic). Shaq played at 325-340 pounds and Wilt was 280-300. They were the same height though (7'1")

Shaq is the guy I would want to see. All these rail thin stretch fives would get broken in half.

Hardly. They’d be out on the perimeter stretching things.

Would love to see Chuck break in half some of these posers like Draymond when they got too chippy

I love that everyone thinks Draymond is a poser.

Promise you he isn’t.

How many people he ever threw out of a plate glass window?

1 less than Barkley I think.

But how many NBA 4s can’t manhandle a random drunk fan at a bar?

I don’t think Barkley is soft by any stretch, but neither is Draymond.

I think most NBA players are smart enough not to manhandle drunk fans at bars; they have way too much cash too lose.

I think the easy answer for me is MJ because Id love to see who is right

The people saying he'd score 50 ppg on today's NBA

Or myself who thinks he's be more like a more athletic DeMar DeRozan because he can't really shoot from ramhe and he much much easier to zone and double now with the defensive rule changes

Reggie, Bird and MJ

Cavalier I'd want to see is Mark Price. Or maybe a healthy Austin Carr.

The MJ can't shoot from range is a pretty funny take. It wasn't a big part of the game when he played but he had several years that he shot a good percentage and his mid-range game was great. He would adapt fine. He was doubled quite a bit then and the defensive rules were tougher. I don't know if he would average 50, but he would be far more Michael Jordan than DeMar DeRozan in toady's NBA.

All one has to do in terms of MJ is just look at the success SGA has getting to the rim in todays game. MJ? Seriously?

Jerry West. He could hit buckets from anywhere on the court.

I'll probably get some shit for this but Bill Russell. Not for his offense obviously. Think he'd be a great defensive player in today's game. Rodman with shot blocking skills.

Oscar Roberston. He could do it all on the court.

Elgin Baylor. His all around game would do just fine today.

Drazen Petrovic. Damn good 3 pointer shooter.

No chance he averages 50.

That is just a dumb opinion.

But he probably averages between 32 and 40 and leads the league in scoring every year just like he did during his prime.

Chuck it up would find himself in any coaches doghouse these days.

Chuck it up Barkley in his career took 300 more 3 pointers in his career than Michael Jordan did. And he only made an absolutely pathetic 26% of those shot which is bad in today's game and was even more cringey back in the day.

One of the big reasons that Charles never got a ring was his absolutely idiotic shot selection.
