If Stanton is back and effective that gives Judge the protection he needs.

Good game between the Yankees and Red Sox tonight. I love those on deck circles in Fenway. Like Little League on deck circles right on the baselines. Can't use em but they look cool.

Kinda fun watching a pretty big and historic number being chased (him and Pujols)

Who's #1? 2007 A-Rod? 2004 Beltre?
I was thinking of Andre Dawson in the late 80's. I know his overall season isn't on the same level as Judges. But in his situation he was a free agent and couldn't make a deal with anyone so he took a one year 500k contract with the Cubs then went out and won the NL MVP. It was a ballsy move.
Then he got a much better deal going into the next season.

Ahh.

Beltre was in a similar boat when the signed with the Red Sox for 2010. He was coming off a blah 2009 (83 OPS+ was the 2nd worst of his career and he missed almost 1/3 of the season, though his defense still put him at 3.3 WAR!). He was a monster for the Sox hitting .321/.365/.553 with a 141 OPS+ and finished 4th in the AL in WAR. It was enough for him to land that big deal with the Rangers and he was worth every penny there.

yeah that's amazing that he was actually able to live up to that Rangers contract. He was playing above average defense right to the end. That's what teams have to think of when they sign these free agents who are already 30 years old. Like when they say "we may eventually move him to first base/DH" . I mean, you can do that, but they immediately become less valuable than a guy like Beltre who can play gold glove level 3rd base and also hit.

This just in. My cousin's boyfriends sister works at the hotel Judge was staying at in Milwaukee. Apparently Judge's hair is falling out in clumps due to all the pressure with Ruth and Maris in sight. Hopefully he knocks out 3 more in the next couple games.

Did he have that much hair to begin with?

Sounds like the pressure Maris went through when he hit 61. I hope he can get through this with his sanity intact.

Maris had a rough time because most Yankee fans and a lot of the writers gave him a hard time. Everyone loved Mantle and wanted him to beat the record. The old timers loved Ruth and didn't want Maris to beat the record and many were shitty to Maris. The writers even put out rumors that he and Mantle didn't get along even though not only did they get along well they actually lived together for a lot of 1961. Maris didn't help himself much by being a bit combative with some of the writers.

Yeah I think in terms of hair he has less than Michael Landon but more than Matt Williams. Regardless, my original post was erroneous. It turns out it was actually my cousins boyfriend who is losing hair in clumps. Probably on account of the meth.

Having so many young kids watch this live yesterday will really inspire the next generation of baseball fans.

Oh, that's right, no kids watched it. It was on so late and on a subscription only network.

My bad.
