Personally, if you just go by numbers, then Lackey is probably the CPOY, if you put greater weight into what he came back from, then you might have a case for Kazmir.

except for the fact that the award has no standards... So it basically is a popularity contest... And since Lackey is a red sox player and was watched more than the others...

You lose even more credibility when you choose to just read the parts you want and discard the rest.

I was just trying to help you out. I did not comment on any of the other parts...

But here is what I see:

Lackey tried playing injured in 2011 and posted a 6.41 ERA. That was the worst ERA (by far) for anyone with his amount of innings pitched. He opted for surgury and did not play at all in 2012. He came back and started 29 games and posted a 3.52 ERA, with a 1.16 WHIP & 161 strike outs.

Colon had a pretty average year in NY in 2011. He took steroids in 2011 and posted a 3.43 ERA in 24 games. In 2013 he had a great (if not suspect) year posting a 2.65 ERA with a 2.17 WHIP & 117 strike outs.

Kazmir was a closed door away from being out of baseball. Lackey, Mo and Santana were all still around and with their jobs intact. If Kazmir doesn't get it there truly is no justice in baseball. All awards simply become popularity contests.

Also Maddux didn't always face great pitchers while Glavine and Smoltz faced bad ones, I remember from those days not all teams had ace type pitcher leading their staff.

I think it has alot to do with confidence in getting run support. Meaning let's say Kershaw is pitching, his defenders are watching him pitch and they're thinking "man hitting is hard", then when they go up to the plate they have no confidence they hit so they struggle and Kershaw gets no runs to work with. Then a guy like Nolasco comes next and his defenders are watching him thinking "man hitting is easy", they go up with all the confidence and bust out runs, Nolasco is able then to keep the lead and wins it.

You really think these pro baseball players, many who've been playing for 20+ years and faced hundreds (if not thousands) of pitchers throughout their lives think like that, changing their confidence on a day by day basis.

Sounds like a major stretch.

If Matt Moore will win me more games, then why would I take Kershaw? If my team won't scvore for him, IK rather take the guy my team always score for. I'll win games and you can keep drooling over Kershaw's stats.

yes, Moore inspired the Rays to score all those runs for him.

Lol, get the fuck out of here.

So what? Do we give him extra points because he was a crap pitcher before as opposed to injured?

He came back from sucking to have a relatively mediocre season...the other guys came back to have good seasons. There's the difference.

Getting back to crappy isn't impressive. As a total biased homer, VMart needs to be in this discussion. (Didn't play much in the field, tore it up in the second half after missing an entire season and struggling thru the start of this season)

According to who and/or using what precedence?

I'd say the point of the award is to reward someone for returning to a high level of play after having a bad season(s) due to whatever reason....

MLB Comeback Player of the Year Award Winners - Baseball-Reference.com

Just take a look at all the guys who won since the award came back. Not a single one had a mediocre season in the year they won the award, so what makes you think it's about who dug themselves out of the deepest hole?

Can we not pretend that this award is a real award?? It is a joke award, just to give out awards...

There is 3 qualifications to win the award...
1. To have once found success
2. to suck or to be injured the previous year
3. to have a good season the current year

Is that not the stupidest award ever...
