A very interesting quote from John Fox:

“I do think it’s closer than people think. We inherited a mess … but I felt we were on the brink at the end. I think that [Halas Hall] building is definitely different; they feel it. I do think that it was a positive.”

I think most here would agree we are closer than people think. The interesting part is in bold. That's a pretty strong comment from a guy who's almost always going to remain neutral. Just shows what an absolute dolt Trestman and Emery (or whoever the GM was at that time) were. How in the world do you hire a CFL (AFL or wherever he came from) guy to run an NFL team?

Phil Emery was the worst thing to happen to this franchise in a long, long time. More than anyone else, he is responsible for what has transpired with this team from 2014 through today.

His coaching hires were terrible, instead of building a team he just attempted to do a quick-fix on our shortcomings by throwing money at every big name/overpriced veteran free agent in sight. He essentially ignored the cap issues he was tying us up in. We're heading into the 2018 off-season, and we've just now gotten that money off of the books.

In the draft, he had a few hits with Jeffery, Long and Fuller. However, outside of that... it was pretty damn bad. He swung big and missed a lot more than he hit.

Emery was basically an experiment of "I wonder what would happen if a fan got to run an NFL team!?"... What do fans bitch about? "We don't spend enough in free agency!"... "Why don't we go after the big names!?"... "We need star WR's and skill position players!"... "Why don't we trade for (insert big name player here)!?"... Well, Emery was the average fan's wet dream of a GM, he did all of that shit... and it was a horror show.
