It's all about the luck of the draw. His pocket presence is already better than at least 22 starting NFL QBs, whether you like him or not. In the right situation, I think he could perform at a high level. If he ends up a Jag, a Viking, or a Raider, he's screwed.

I don't know a single Aggie fan, and I know tons, that didn't think Johnny was going to the NFL.

He should have stayed. College is the only tiny piece of success he's going to get.

He's going to be a joke in the NFL.

It could go either way - I've seen him make some really high-quality throws, including on the deep out (which the scouts especially respect). There are going to be understandable concerns about his durability, and he's going to have to change his style, as far as running. He's not as big as Cam or Kaep.

Care to elaborate?

Oh but ESPN thinks A&M is a top 25 team next year because they have a coach and um...yeah, they really didnt give any other reasons.

Hill is a good QB, won't be manziel though. But they better open the checkbook and buy a defense or it won't matter next year.

He made the right decision if he's going in the first. It surprises me that he's projected that high. I've only seen him play a couple of times, but he just looks like a college quarterback who won't make it in the pros. Judging from some of the comments here, it sounds like I've just seen him at his worst because what I've seen is a guy scrambling around chucking balls up for grabs a lot.

My boss is a big Manziel fan...got tickets right behind the bench for a game this yr...has been a coach himself...his thoughts..Pocket awareness is much higher than most QBs, something you can't teach, keeps eyes focused downfield pretty well scrambling in the pocket, faster than you think, throws some floaters now and again.

My thoughts...he'll probably make some big plays his 1st time around the league...I have to think he's smart enough to realize he can't take those hits in the NFL...once the league has seen him on the field, he's gonna have to make a living throwing the ball from the pocket and a few plays running and I'm not sold he can do that. I didn't think RW could do it either...we see how that turned out.

You and I don't agree often, but on this we do.

That's an interesting comment. I am sometimes surprised by how confident many fans seem to be in their opinions about how a college player will transition to the NFL. Given that the sophisticated player evaluation systems employed by NFL teams frequently yield both surprising successes and failures, coupled with the strengths and weaknesses that Manziel has displayed in college, I don't really understand how any fan can have much confidence in his opinion about Manziel's pro prospects.

I'm in that camp as well, but I'm not sure about a total flop...why do you think so?

I think what makes him good in college will fail him in the NFL. You just can't out run guys in the NFL, and while Johnny makes some decent throws I am not sure he has the arm strength and precision required for the smaller NFL windows. I an not sure he will be a complete bust I see him being somewhere around the Rex Grossman type success, he may win you a game or two but you ain't gonna win a SB with him.

If you read my last sentence...that should indicate that I'm not that confident...lol.

To your point...I've seen him play enough, but in part...I've bought into the stereotype that your QB needs to be 6'+ with a big arm...of course we know that doesn't ensure success in the NFL, but if you don't have those assets, it's easy to say this guy won't make it.

RW proved otherwise, but the next guy up will always have to prove it...Manziel is the next guy.

Russell Wilson has proved nothing. He's been a decent game manager for the best defense in the league with a beast of a RB.

Good points...I think he has some special qualities that at first I thought were just a fluke, but they appear to be innate...I think with all special college players that have played the position...Vick, RG3, Tebow, they will enjoy some success early because they are special, and seeing a guy on a film and playing against him are 2 different things.

After that...DCs/players know just how fast/strong, etc. you are...they take better angles and will start laying more licks on you...Johnny Manziel could turn out to be the next Drew Brees, but don't see that in his game.

LOL I did read it -- right before I highlighted and called it "interesting". I think it is a reasonable acknowledgment that as fans we can form opinions about how a particular might perform in the NFL, but our opinions might well be wrong. How many teams who would now love to have RW as their QB passed on him on draft day? If all of those teams were wrong in their evaluations of him, then it seems pretty obvious to me that the typical NFL is likely to incorrectly evaluate a given prospect.
