lol

how DARE someone want to play somewhere besides Pittsburgh

it's the money part of it that ticks me off,,if he was pissed at the team or wasn't getting game time I could see him leaving but they offer him 60 mil and he turns it down,,,now we are talking about greed,,,,I have no time for greedy players,,,,,thats pretty simple I think even you will understand that

What made the deal great for the Pens, IMO, is Shero didn't have to send the 22nd pick back to Carolina. I was surprised to see that. Getting Pouliot AND Maatta in the first 23 picks is friggen great!

I have to say, I think Shero did the best he could dealing with the position he was in. Staal will be sorely missed. He will have a Selke or two before his career is over, and I can see cups, too. That Staal family factor will be great to watch.

not sure why you are being an asshole and personally insulting, but whatever.

If he takes less than 60 mill to stay with the 'Canes, is it still greed?

I think that this was a combination of a lot of things:

1. Staal was not willing to be the third center on a team for the rest of his career (can't argue with that).

2. Staal thought that he was worth more, or would be if given a bigger role.

3. The Pens could only offer so much if they wanted to keep other pieces in place.

Both teams got something that they wanted out of the deal.

I mean if I was a top 5 draft pick and thought that I could be the man somewhere, I would not want to lock in for 10 year somewhere where that wasn't possible. On the other side, the Pens gave what they could.

nope

but he hasn't NOT done that yet either

So it's ALL speculation and personal opinion at this point, including claims of massive greed, correct?

1. logical

2. rational

3. coherent

4. obviously impossible. It's just fucking greed, obviously. He should be damn happy to play his career in Sid and Geno's shadow. Selfish bastard.

I'm not familiar with Sutter, everyone here has said good things about him so the Pens will still be alright,,as for the Hurricanes it's going to take more than Staal to get them out of the celler,,,,,,,,,,,I just don't get it with the Pens Stall has a chance at winning the cup several times in the next 10 years,,,I don't see him getting 1 shot at it with the Canes,,,,BUT HE CAN SAY HE PLAYED WITH HIS BROTHER,,,,,thats great

There's also the chance that he'll take a "family discount" in order for Carolina to fill some other holes on the roster.

The Hurricanes are a solid team with a good amount of young talent, and they play in the SE. Even if the Caps get back rolling and win the conference for the foreseeable future (which is iffy at best), there are a lot of easy points to get down there.

Isn't that what everyone in Pittsburgh said Sid did, when he signed long term for "only" 8.7 mil instead of the cap?

:noidea:

NOBODY was saying that before the concussions

It was a bargain, in fact

If going by that theory, every single player in the league is grossly overpaid right now, as they may get hurt and miss a lot of time next year.

Everyone should be paid by the game, not a yearly contract.
That'l take care of the darn injury risk once and for all.
