I think it depends on what team Love is traded to.

I think Love and Rondo end up on the same team in 2015.

Could be with the Lakers.

Could be with the Knicks.

There's no guarantee Love gets traded. Flip seems bent on keeping him and trying to convince him to stay. That's why reasonable offers have been turned down.

There's a fairly real possibility that Flip rolls the dice and risks letting him walk, especially if Minny is in the playoff hunt at the trade deadline.

I found it.

No matter what, Love is not signing an extension this year with anyone.

Teams are only going to get a verbal agreement that he will re'up in the Summer
.

Even if Love were completely happy, it would not make complete financial sense to sign an extension to his current contract. The rules favor his letting it expire next summer and starting with a new deal. The same goes with any team Love would be traded to. This unquestionably limits his trade value because teams will be wary of trading for a player on the last year of his contract.
To elaborate a bit, the longest Love could be extended now is for three more years (through 2017-18) whereas if he were to opt out and sign with a team next year he could sign through 2018-19 or re-sign with the Wolves through 2019-20.

As Stein and Shelbourne noted in their article, that's a difference of about $30 million if he goes elsewhere and somewhere around $45 million+ if he were to re-sign with Minnesota and take advantage of his Bird rights. We have to assume that will factor into the decision of a player who has already had his share of injury problems and probably understands how any future injuries could hurt his value (or any player's for that matter).

Sure, Love might b desperate to get out of Minnesota, but expecting him to push to do so this summer at the expense of a longer and more lucrative contract is an assumption that we don't have enough facts to support.

The bolded will seriously hurt his trade value. Making it even less likely that Minny trades him. I don't think teams want to risk getting Dwightmared.

:agree:

As we have seen with Bosh and Carmelo this year, guys can be paid to stay with teams under less than ideal circumstances.

Deron Williams did the same thing 2 years prior.

I thought for sure all 3 of those guys were gone.

But, money talks....

Sure.

But, that's based on luck.

If healthy, do you see this Laker team in the Bottom 5 of the NBA?

I don't.

They could have no better than the 6th pick with Philly, Orlando, Bucks, Jazz, Boston fielding such terrible rosters.

I also see them being better than the Kings and Minny when they trade Love.

Unless Kobe is broken, the Lakers picking top 5 is a pipedream...imo

Buzzkill.

Yep.

Which is why the Warriors and Cavs are not willing to give up top assets.

Off topic....

What do you think about the Hornets going after Stephenson?

Kemba, Lance, Vonleh, Jefferson, MKG would be good enough for a 7 or 8 seed in the East.

True. Word is though, that Love wants out of Minny, plus he's young enough that this upcoming contract is unlikely to be his last max deal.

He's been said to want to be a Laker and many GM's have said they think the Lakers is where he will end up. Assuming that's true, he could sign a 4 year max with the Lakers (or someone else) and follow it up with a 5 year max after that as his last big payday.

Vonleh looked awful other day, was 0 for 13 at one point.

I know, you know I'm over protective.

Who does Houston think they are fooling?

After giving Ariza 32 mil, they are trying to make folks believe they are going to match the Parson's deal?

:lame:

Just let him walk.

The Heat are only offering Deng a 2 year deal at 10mil?

I thought he'd get more than that.

No worries. Mecca seems pretty darn cool, doesn't seem to take things personally and above all, knows her basketball.

Exum was GARBAGE too.

They both need 2 years minimum.

Along with Gordon and Lavine, they are projects that should pay off BIG down the road.

That's not bad and given sometime to develop the youngsters, they could end up being pretty good just off of that. A couple of solid moves to go along with it and they could end up a threat in the east.

Had this discussion at FN before it went up in flames:

Is Love the kind of guy you can win with? Or a great player on bad to average teams?

Idk the answer.
