I wish they could've pursued a similar trade for a different target. Tough to do as other targets wouldn't have been in the same salary range.

I still come back to the Russell/DFS trade. Just working that to include Sharpe could've gone a long way. Strong big (if only 6'9) and a great rebounder. Now they are likely limited to trying to sign him outfight as an RFA, as a S&T would hard cap them at the first threshold. In other words, they burned that bridge.

I'd still like to know what they saw...I'm assuming that the docs told them that it's potentially another Andrew Bynum situation.

He just completed his 3rd season and has played in 43, 19 and 44 games...that's not a great start as far as durability.

He's also averaged only 24.4 minutes per game.

Because, JJ played the entire starting lineup in the 2nd half all 24 minutes basically. Rookie coaching playoff mistake.

Way to go on a rant that doesn't even answer the post.

The players that left...Zubac, Randle, Ingram, etc. led to the Lakers getting Lebron and then subsequently landing AD. Having AD, who had been coveted by the Mavs for a few years (they actually approached the Lakers a few times, but the asking price from the Lakers was always Luka) is what led to the Luka trade.

The Lakers tried to address losing AD by trading for Williams, but he didn't pass the physical. Unfortunately, they really didn't have much time to address it beyond the attempted Williams trade.

JJ showed that he is smart and can be a very effective coach, but he was a rookie head coach, made some mistakes (especially in the playoffs) and I'm sure, learned from this season.

I don't know about "legitimate reasons" for moving Luka other than their statement of "defense wins championships".

The "Luka is fat and drinks beer" narrative started after they saw how much blowback there was from the trade. That narrative has mostly been laughed at because he didn't look too fat when he was leading them to the finals last year.

He looked gassed late in games because he had missed a significant number of games (he was actually still out when the Lakers got him) and he never really got a chance to get into game shape.
