Is there such a thing as a MavSker?

  • YES. One Can Only Root For Husker Athletics.

  • NO. As Long As One Is Rooting For a Sport The Huskers Don't Compete In.

  • NOT SURE. Fuck Cretin's Tho

If one claims to be a Husker fan, yet roots for the University of Nebraska Omaha (UNO) Mavericks in the Frozen 4 next week, does that make them a MavSker?

Call me a MavSker then. I have been waiting for this since 1997. This is huge for the UNO hockey program.

I don't really care either way if they win. But I'd lean towards them winning because why the hell not?

I voted no, but I guess I would be fine with being a MavSker because I have quite a few connections to the UNO hockey program. Many of my coaches growing up were former UNO players, and they really helped me through the years. I'm still in touch with quite a few of them even all these years later.

I used to go to a lot of UNO hockey games about 15 years ago. I had a buddy with season tickets and couldn't ever get anyone to go with him, so I'd go. That was back when they played at Aksarben (or was that the Lancers :confused2:).

I didn't know shit about hockey, but I drank a lot of beer.

I went to a Lancers game about 18 years ago and I swear it was in one of those giant bubbles over in the Aksarben area.

That would have been the Lancers. They played at the arena at Aksarben before it was torn down. Then they moved over to the Mid America Center in Council Bluffs for a few years prior to moving to Ralston Arena.

UNO, on the other hand, played at the Civic Auditorium prior to the Qwest/Centurylink Center being built.

Depending on the year, you might have some pretty decent autographs on that stick. Several of the former Stars players have gone on to play in the NHL (one even for the US in the Olympics) and 3 former Stars players have scored national title winning overtime goals. That little fact is pretty ridiculous, considering most of the championship games don't even go into overtime.

I think he played with Grant Potulney...he's one of the aforementioned national title winning goal scorers. Scored the game winner for Minnesota in 2002. Fouts is a cool guy...he was an assistant coach for the Stars for a couple years. I also knew a bunch of those guys on the early teams because I was at the rink all the time with my dad. They seemed so old at the time haha

I got a puck from the Lancers game.

But I bought it from the souvenir stand out in the hallway.

Yeah, it's pretty crazy seeing the players now and realizing how young they are. I will say though that while there are a few punks, for the most part they are pretty good kids.
